  1. thats true but its only as strong as the parent metal around it and secondly HELICOIL is not reccomended for high Tourque applications such as braking systems.

    Only giving my advice!

    Use whatever you wish!

Thanks I appreciate what you are saying

And will take it on board

Just looking for the best way to overcome my problem

Thought they were M10 but they are M12 x 1.5

3 of the 4 holes are striped

  2. Must say mate any time I've used Ian Grieve for anything they have been spot on.

May well have been an off day!

But if you’re in business you can’t afford to have off days.

  3. I agree, helicoil in the brakes is NOT a good idea, its a temp fix as far as i am concerned.

The thread size is 10mm (or an M10 thread) which means it has an 8.5mm hole. M12 uses a 10.25mm hole, so you can drill the clearance hole in the brakes to 12.2mm, then drill the threads out with a 10mm drill, to clear the threads, then tap them with an M12 tap. this will give you plenty of thread afterwards.

make sure you use a starter tap then finish with a bottom tap.

Clean out the threads and use new M12 bolts and some Loctite.

This is what is said about them

(Sprung insert coils create a stronger thread than the original metal. )

  4. They are Just the best the only one that i will let work on my 06 :D

    On the other hand

    Ian Grieve (Falkirk) Ltd

Service department were totally off hand unhelpful and wanted £400 plus for a service and £120 plus for body work inspection

Over £520 and could not even be nice on the phone

Hypertech all the way keep it up guys

  5. have a set of STI brembo calipers

    Fixing bolts are 10 mm

The threads in calipers for the bolts are stripped

can i tap to a larger size

is there some other way around this

    thanks for looking

    any help would be good

  6. I'm very excited now about my next mod spree - the handling!! whoo hoo!

but one problem I need to get sorted is the arch grinding on the tyres after a sharp dip in the road or a landing after a rise - escpecially if the car has passangers. I've had them ground right back so its not as bad as it could be, but still there. I wanna be able to get air on this thing not baby it. and escpecially when I get the new coilovers its gonna sit lower too.

firstly; I got the superleggera's from peter fai17 (ie a newage) so the offset is probably out a bit for a classic. So has anyone ever heard of machining the wheels to take the Offset back a bit? If so what do you know about it?

second; I wonder if I can safely change the tyre size on these wheels and if that is likely to help? They are 225/40/18 just now. Does anyone know If I could put, say, 215/35/18 on the same rims and how that would affect the handling and the grinding?

I'm looking to get the goodyear asymmetric eagle f1's and don't want to rip em up on the arches!

Hopefully I'll be all done by the time Knockhill 15th June comes around!!

    This site will explain all

  7. A big thank you to AWD and all the SIDC members that made me so welcome

    Today in Perth

Turned up with a pocket full of money and a list of what I wanted

Was hoping to chat to someone from AWD to book car in for upgrades

No this is how it went

No one wanted to speak to the new guy

No one in AWD wanted to speak to me

    You’re all so cliquey

Open day but only if your one of the lads

AWD you will not need to talk to me as my money will not come your way

SIDC you can stick my membership where the sun don’t shine

  8. PCD is not a factor in tyre sizes. If you imagine a circle, where the circumference of the circle passes through the centre of the studs and then measure the diameter of said circle; this gives you the PCD of your wheels. In STi models from 05 onwards, this was extended to 114.3mm to make a stronger attachment of the wheel to the hub.

thanks i did know what PCD ment but was not sure if the 06 WRX was 100 or 114.3

7.5'' or 8'' is it not the width of the wheel ;)

  9. Thats it.. it's that easy.

Ps. you need the latest Braun LiPo battery packed hairdryer to alleviate running an extension out to the car !

But it does the job ....

Make sure your credit card is in debt though... Whats the point in using a valid one ! :P

    Thank you guys :rotfl:
  10. Well after seeing there add in January’s mag

    Just had to say something

We spent £26,000 with then ended up with a 03 Sport Wagon with PPP that was a total bag of S…

We spent months trying to get it sorted with no help

John R Weir would not speak to us in fact no one would

It was only as a last chance that I reported them to Subaru UK

And thanks to them it was sorted out

Subaru made them take the car back

This cost us money and a lot of distress

If anyone wants the Facts contact me and I will tell you the full story

If you have to use them be careful

  11. I had the other half point this out to me some time ago. Until then I also stuck my head out the window or went looking for the same model car to find out what side it was on.

Of course like many men when she told me I had to say to her that it was common knowledge and didnt everyone know it.(love to know who told her but didn't want to dwell on it)

It dose not work on a RAV 4
