  1. Me too! . o O (Once I get my maps sorted [6], car is more free-revving but not hitting boost targets [:'(])
  2. Woah, never ever though of changing the scoob! Especially for an evo!! It's just good to get a point of view from someone who's had both, that doesn't happen very often thanks! next car, in quite a few years time will probably either be a 320bhp STi (possibly hawkeye) or just beef up my bugeye a bit more, but would prefer the better suspension set-up available on the STi! although may be tempted by a RB5, WR1 or RB320, but if I'm honest the leather seats in the RB320 are poor they just don't hold you in as well as other seats! [:|] The standard sport seats in my WRX have better side support. (But they dont look as good)
  3. Gawd man you have good taste in cars!! I'd be interested in a brief comparison between the evo and scoob though [] Got chucked about by my brother in his RB320 last week and I can honestly say the suspension is spot on! It's firm but you don't feel it firm! Difficult to explain but WoW! it works! I believe the RB320 suspension kit will soon be available for STi's! Well worth the upgrade IMHO Sure I spotted you wheels parked up at the east side of Forres the other week.
  4. That's a pretty poor show from autosave! I've heard rumours about that import rule but no idea how legitimate it is. As for UK law that's clearly an illegal plate for so many reasons. The font looks like the old style font which is not allowed these days. Any new plate beign made up even the old prefix style must be using the new font. Font height must be somethign like 77mm high. distance between fonts must be 9mm and border distance between edge of font and edge of reflective plate must be 11mm or something (cant remember exact values but its around that). Also the plate must have the official british standard mark on the lower right hand side of the plate and at least the postcode of the company who made up the plate on the bottom center of the plate. I dont have the offial regulations saved on this computer but if you go onto the dvla website I'm pretty sure the correct regulations are there somewhere.. Please dont try and argue this with authorities but I've heard stories from bikers that as long as the British standard mark is on the plate it is considered legal. That sounds dodgy to me but there you go. Same deal with bikers who bet a sticker of the british standard mark and shove it on their illegal exhausts and get away with it.. I have the facilities at home to make up proper UK plates or the proper size with the british standard mark on them but I've only made up my own plates (wanted a narrower one for te front so there wasnt too much white space at either side. Looks more natural now looked odd before.) However I am concerned about making up plates for other people (not just that I need more practice before I do that) but if I did what I would do is write "NOT FOR ROAD USE" on the back of the plate even though they are probably 100% legal. From a seller point of view that covers me from the authorities knocking on my door asking about dodgy plates I was selling. I can turn round and officially say that the plates were not designed for road use. That doesn't mean they would be illegal, it's just covers my back.. As everyone else said go back and have words with autosave, I have seen loads of people get illegal plates from them. My feeling about it is as long as the plate is using a sensible clear font and is clearly readable from a certain distance it should be considered legal. What I don't like is people who put extra studs on their plate to make them read something else and put silly illegible fonts on there. Other than that I don't see a problem. Except the law is the law and we should really abide to it unless were willing to accept beign punished for breaking it. In this case The seller has mislead the customer into thinking they are buying a legal product when it clearly isn't (Same deal as me with the tinted windows on my car, but that's a whole different topic). It's a right sod of a situation to be in. the fine need to get paid, question is can autosave cough up for their mistake? . o O (Ok, enough rambling from me)
  5. That is lurvely!! New age wheels suit the classics perfectly!! Nice car colour too []
  6. Been up to see them a couple of times just for small parts and some touchup paint. One time asked them about getting my alarm pin code reset (as I didn't know it) and they said they've never heard of being able to reset the codes!?! Confused by this went back home and after 20 mins of googling found the answer and reset the pin code myself.. *sigh* Mind you I'm also interested in peoples feedback about aird motors as I was thinking about using them for servicing...
  7. Yep. I've got one.. Well not a proper code reader but something better and probably cheaper.. Easy enough to use.. Get yourself a Openport cable from Tactrix.com Note will cost about £80 by the time you addon customs charges and take about 10 days for delivery.. Then download some free software for your laptop/PC called ECU Explorer (there are other bits of software but this one works well and its legally free) And that's pretty much it! Managed to clear an ECU code on my bugeye just the other week. Really handy bit of kit. Currently working on my own PPP style remap for my WRX [] In which case the cable will pay for itself..
  8. Hey folks, I've been reading up on the open-ecu project (clicky) for a few months now as was wondering if there is any one else on here who has looked into the project and even better if you are using it? No disrespect to the pro-tuners who post on here. They do a fantastic job but I'd be interested to hear from others (if any) who have the balls to tune their own vehicle without a rolling road. Most importantly those who have done it safely. Reference sites for anyone interested: openecu.org enginuity.org ECUFlash ECUExplorer P.s. I've read threads on this forum with bickering about how professionals can do a better job and tuning than others. I don't want that sort of replies here.. I know the risks of self tuning, I know the pro's have all the right equipment and training and they do a damn fine job!!. Self tuning is a very risky hobby!!!
  9. Dont I know it [:$] My WRX had front side tints on from when I bought it from a garage just a few months ago (apparently been on the car for many years before). Got pulled by police just over a week ago. Car had a prohabition order put on it as it's considered dangerous so couldn't drive it. Officers gave me permission to drive it home (as I was just 10 miles away from home at the time), car had to have a full MOT (Despite not being due for moinths) then driven straight from MOT station to police station to be checked over. On top of all the hassle (including the 20mins to rip off the tinted film - Tip:use a hair dryer/heat gun), £60 fine and 3 points!! saying "Ouch!" doesnt really cover it. It's a sore penalty thei've got out there guys/gals!!! P.s. Yeah it's good to see a wagon as a special edition.. More practical!!
  10. New special editon Hawkeye WRX.. http://www.subaru-approved.com/Your%20Deal...za%20GB270.aspx I guess for those who can't afford an RB320 [] Looks like quite a neat package! No indications of prices though... The saloon if very close to my idea of the ideal WRX. Working towards it step by step with my bugeye []
  11. New special editon Hawkeye WRX.. http://www.subaru-approved.com/Your%20Deal...za%20GB270.aspx I guess for those who can't afford an RB320 []
  12. The website addres is actually printed on the MOT certificate (which is where i found it) but here a direct link: http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECH...ory-Request.jsp Got my MOT done today no problems at all! passed with the 3rd cat deleted too. WooT! Police are happy so i'm back on the road!
  13. Yep just the tinting on the front nearside and offside windows (driver/front passenger) You can put what you like on the rear end behind the B-billar. Yeah I believe it involved a motorcyclinst and it was believed that due to the restricted visibuility from the car windows the driver could not see the motorcycle clearly and the car driver pulled out infront of him.. Killing the motorcyclist!! Should have done the same [*-)] . I checked back the previous MOT's for the car on the web (didn't realise you could do that) and not the last MOT but the previous two before then the front tinting was mentioned as possibly being illegal. I never had this information when I purchased the car, it was sold as having "privacy glass" and just assumed it was legal, shame on me... Also it seems the tinting has been on the front of the car since at least 2005 yet it's only been picked up now. Grr! Anyway, for a tip on how to easily remove the film/tint find a hairdryer or a heat gun and heat up one edge of the glass from inside the glass and start to pick off a section, it should start to peel a way with your nail/finger. Can take a few minutes to remove a whole sheet but take your time, heat up a section peel it back a bit, then heat up the next section and peel a bit. Try and peel off too much too quickyl or not enough heat and the film will tear which is a pain. Once you get the film off you may be left with some sticky residue on the glass. Just use some glass cleaner to take off the gunk or some meths if you have any kickind around... My drivers side was was slightly torn in a section and someoen tried to fill it in with a permanent marker. So was thinkign about gettign them replaced anyway.. At which point a tinting comapany woudl hopefulyl tell me I shouldn't have them on at all. Again should have done that earlier... But then it's always easy to say that.. P.s. Got the new MOT scheduled for tomorrow and will hopefully pass and get the prohabition cleared on mycar. Pay the fine at the local council court office, and get a nice new set of Bridgestone RE050's fitted [] (This is gonna be an expensive day)
  14. Thanks for the links andy, Yep looks fair enough.. Had I known that there was a lower limit of 30% light travel which incurred serious penalties and known that the tint on the car allowed less than 30% light through then I would have probably removed it long before now.. Last thing you want to do is run around in an illegal car that only going to attract attention.. Never mind what's done is done... Now I have to pay for it.... One thing I was just thinking about though.. For anyone considering getting tints all round, remember that if you are sold perfectly legal tint film but your windows are already partially tinted then you will be getting a double tint. E.g. The Impreza windows are already slightly tinted as standard (as I noticed once I removed the film) so it's probably around the legal 70% boundary but with the added tint it not only took it below 70% but below 30% Had the glass not been tinted as standard perhaps the test woudl have shown the windows were about 40% therefore not incurring the more serious penalty. If you can see what I'm getting at. Infact I when I have to present the car to the police I may take a sample of the film along and see if they can test it to see if the tint alone on clear piece of glass would be over the limit. Whoever the owner was that put the tint on before me could have purchased it as legal tint but because of the double tint it was much darker than advertised. Not trying to dig out of a hole, just something I thought of earlier on.. I'd suggest if anyone get's tinting done in the future, ask for it to be checked with a proper light sensor before paying for it and driving on the public roads! You have been warned!!! [6]
  15. Actualyl andy have you got a link online to where that information is presented officially? (Not a boy racer forum for example) Would be nice to have a copy of the regs when telling other people about what they are risking.. Thanks,
  16. Sounds like it.. Mine were only letting in 23.6% but from the inside you probably wouldn't think it. Obviously I was aware of the tint but even when dark you coudl still see out fairly clearly. I guess that explains the points. I confess I was aware of the 70% limit on the front end but never expected the points..
  17. I think the penalty changed pretty recently.. But correct me if I'm wrong.. Especially with the recent news clicky. (I think someone else posted this link up a few weeks ago but can't find the post)
  18. Aye got the option of court.. Possibly could of had a go of it claiming being a member of the IAM and myself trying to promote road safety among young drivers. Sure I could have tried and got a lesser penalty, but can't be arsed with all that to be honest... In saying that it's prooving a load of hassle anyway.. But then they would probably have the right to teke my car off the road until it was all cleaered up.. And just while writing this I rememberd I'll probably have to remove the Sunstrip for the MOT as well as it catches more than 22mm of the wiper (or whatever the regulation is) Bah-Effin-Humbug! Cheers for hte tip on tyres! Gonna have Carkare (Tyock Ind Est.) take a look at one of the tyres tomorrow and see if they reckon it will pas the MOT or not..
  19. Just to confirm, that "Email subscriptioN" thing fix for hte PM's doesn't work for replies [:'(]
  20. Yeah I was quite shocked! I thought the same as you guys, I'd get a warning and I'd happily remove them, even on the spot if I had to.. Maybe a small fine to go along with the warning.. But nope... Not turning out to be a good day, just did a quick check over the car for the MOT and couple of tyres are looking more scrubbed at the edges than I thought they were a coupel of weeks ago. *sigh* This is a right B****R of a day.. Anyone know any good local places to get tyres quickly? Had planned on maybe getting some the next coupel of weeks while down in southampton but the car has to sit in the drive until I get this sorted so at the moment that screws up my plans.. Argh! If Lewis Hamilton can wind the canadian F1GP that might cheer me up []
  21. Is it closed as in they have restructed some of the source code somehow? Or closed in that if they catch you tampering they will cancel the licence?
  22. Simply because I'm too lazy can you tell me, is the community server package /database sit stand alone on the SIDC webspace or does it make call backs to the community server site/server to create the forums? I guess it makes callbacks if you can't edit it [:'(]
  23. Seems the boys are out this weekend.[:|] I got pulled over today by two nice gentlemen to have a chat about tinted windows. More specifically, my front driver/passenger tinted windows. *sigh* I knew they were probably darker than the new legal limits but apparently they are much darker! Darkest they had seen! legal limit 70% light can pass through it.. Midn 23.6%!! That sounds really dark when you see it written down but from looking inside out it wasn't all that bad. Anyway, the damage is as follows: Remove the front tints [:'(] £60 fine [:'(][:'(] 3 Points [:'(][:'(][:'(] Car is off the road until I get a new MOT test done to comfirm the glass is legal and then take it to the local police station to have someone check to make sure it's all done and it's back in "legal" form, to have the ban lifted. [:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(] Wouldn't be so bad if I had put the tints on myself but I bought the car like that 7 months ago and was advertised with having "Privacy Glass" but rules are rules.. *sigh* Ok I knew this day would probably come, but it's a farily harsh penalty IMHO!! Never mind... I duely accepted No intentions of causing a fuss. But be warned if you've got tints on the front side windows other than Manufacturer glass tinting then I strongly suggest you remove them! It's not worth gettign pulled over for.
