where's best to buy Subaru standard parts from?
Ali Mowat replied to Ali Mowat's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Thanks for that guys, will give both a call. Not too keen on second hand jobs, but your right, I could be lucky and find a nearly new set! I have been quoted just under £100 per oe damper from my usual garage and was hoping to find them a bit cheaper. After fitting I will be about £300 so I considered spending a bit more and getting the Scoob Tein'd up, but after speaking to Duncan @ Hypertech (who was really helpfull) it looks like availlability is going to be a problem. -

I will try and give them a phone later, I have just checked the site but doesn't look promising!! I find it pretty weird that out of 24 views, presumably most of them Subaru owners, that no-one bar from Stephen seems to be able to offer a suggestion as to the best place to get parts for their cars??!![] Surely you don't all get them from Subaru dealerships and pay full price? -
I am looking to get a price for two new rear dampers for my 97 wagon as they are well past their best now! With my vw's before, the best place to buy from was the likes of GSF (German Swedish French) and send OE parts to your door way cheaper than you would get from the dealers. Anywhere similar for Jap parts?? Cheers

Both my rear shocks are leaking and were to be getting replaced on Tuesday with oe jobs, but I might be as well to think about these coillovers seeing as it would only be a little more expensive! Would I be best to get Hypertech to get them sent up here or get them elsewhere as I dont want to have to drive from Aberdeen to Falkirk just to get them fitted??[] Cheers

Kloon, If I am taking the golf I will be towing so best to make my own way out, but if not then definately want to join the convoy to Alford! Hard to decide whether to go Scooby scalping in the golf [], or not bother and just enjoy the run out to Alford on the backroads!! -
Run from Aberdeen to Scottish National SIDC day @ Alford
Ali Mowat replied to kloon's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Kloon, I think John S said it was fine to run the golf when I pm'd him a while ago. It was just that John mentions that a number of competition cars would be there to test your Subaru against, and was wondering what those were. My golf is a track car and has to be traillered, so was trying to decide whether it would be worth the hastle of getting it there or just going in the Scoob. Any ideas? Also, could I please have a pm too!!!! -

I might burn along to this also! Whats the story with the track action, is this just a Scooby day or are there other cars going on track? Undecided whether or not to bring the golf along as well. -

is over 80k on the clock a lot for a scooby??
Ali Mowat replied to scoobyjim's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I have just bought my UK wagon 2 months ago with 99,000 on the clock! It now has 103k but has fsh and seems to be sweet as and has been well looked after. Hopefully it will last for a fair bit yet! I was speaking to euan r at ellon on sat and his has 134k and still made a decent power - around about 230hp iirc and sounded sweet. Just use the maillage as a bargining point and get the price down. -
Cheers Ali, will be looking into it. Needing two new rears at the moment, currently Toyo T1-R's all round, so tempted to just go for those again, although I did like the look of those potenza's. I have just put some toyo R888's on my golf and did fancy them on the Subaru for the remainder of summer, but maybe that would be a little "hardcore" on a road car! Wuz - where did you get your tyres from?

Hi Kevin, yeah, your Sti certainly did well on the rollers! I was mentioning to a few others that it reminded me of when I was playing Gran Tourismo 1 when I had a white wagon like yours tuned up to the max!!! Cheers for the info on the exhaust, I think the H&S backbox is the one for me, not to ott while certainly seems to be able to do the numbers when combined with the other breathing mods. Still havnt worked out how to use these icons properly! How do you enter them into the main body of the post, mine always seem to go straight to the top - hence the rolling eyes above when I meant for to appear in the main text!!

I had a great day, thanks to Craig for all the organisation and to Simon and Paula @ JapPerformance for yet another cracking day. I was well happy with the wagons effort of 235 bhp atf and 178 bhp atw, which I reckon was pretty good for a completely standard car on normal 95 ron fuel!! Was good to meet a few of you and check out some of the Aberdeen scoobies. Cant remember the guys name that owns the white sti wagon, but cheers for the info on your exhaust etc. Btw, well cool wagon there, proper stealth beast. (As far as a scoob being stealth goes anyway...) Also, who had one of the newage scoobs that was running on bridgestone potenza's - meant to ask you about them?

Hope no-one from here just got huckled by Grampians finest !!
Ali Mowat replied to kloon's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Thats almost as bad as on my way through to Knockhill! Passed through the two stretches of average speed cameras (specs) at a stupid 40 mph limit when there are absolutely no road works taking place and both lanes open as usual - they then have the cheek to have a safety camera van trapping after both of the 40 limits!! Taking the piss to be honest. Road angel will be in use on sat I think. -

Good luck with the rebuild John, great news about the new shell too.
-
I didnt actually make it down. but heard John had a bad one. So im told, he went off at "Meadow" and went side on into a tree at some serious speed. I think he was unhurt, although I am told that the car is totalled. I would guess he will transfer all the kit over to a new shell?

Hey Zeolite, yeah they tow pretty well, although you have to stop at about every bloody petrol station on the way!!! We stopped in Dundee for fuel and on the way out I decided to go back to Halfords for a fire extinguisher, I then realised we had left tyhe filler cap for the golf at the pump and had to go all the way back! Thought we were going to be running late so I got a bit of a move on and ended up passing Foz with the S2000 at a fair pace, I gave him a toot as we went past. Didnt see the S2000 on track though? What colour was your WRX, I think I saw a couple on the way down?

Im 21 and insured with Elephant for £1200 fully comp for the year on a 97' UK turbo Wagon and 2 years no claims. Its a 10 month bonus accelerator policy. You have to pay it off in one go if you want to take the discount, works out a lot more paying monthly.
