kloon Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) Reason I ask is that a mate of mine, who is also a member on here, did a private cash sale on Saturday for his 02 Bugeye STi. Jist of the story is the lad came up from Glasgow, had a good look round, took the car for a test drive, was impressed to the point that he said it was a "very nice example", handed over the cash, signed the V5 and off he went back to Glasgow. Yesterday he's on the phone ranting that the car's a disgrace, has been rolled, the roof's twisted, panels are all different colours etc and he's wanting his money back. The car came from Sunnyhill Motors just 6 months ago and is HPi checked clear, Sunnyhill even did it again themselves yesterday at their own expense to have fax proof. My mate has tried to reason with him over the phone but he just keep's hanging up, saying he'll be in Aberdeen tonight at 5pm and that there are "ways' of getting his money back. A threat in anyones book i'd say. A pretty unsavoury way to do business im sure you'll all agree and a bit worrying for my mate and his wife. If any of you are in Yoker could you PM me and i'll give you his name and you'll maybe know or will have heard of him and you could maybe have a word and see exactly what's wrong here. Cheers, Ari. thefastone Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Yeah I have to say that this smells really bad like Ari, sounds a bit like a scam or something, the V5 has been signed accross, so I dont know... I really Feel for him, And I'd try and make a point of being there if I could just in case... But I think that we might be back out to sea by then...

You, I and many others have seen that car and if that's a write off with multi coloured panels then I must be blind.
craig mac Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 PAUL CORRAN, YOKER, GLASGOW, TO BE EXACT We have his full addy, contact number and would appriciate anyones "Help"
4Hero Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 not good mate, maybe call www.citizensadvice.org.uk? Good luck.
boris b Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 not good mate, maybe call www.citizensadvice.org.uk? Good luck. If he has made any specific threats it might be a good idea to pop into the local cop shop with his details and ask if they can have somebody in the area.
thefastone Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 think he's called them mate, but to be honest, I think we'd all rather that it never got to that stage where he even came back up to aberdeen about it... you know what I'm saying... Prevention is better than the cure an all that...
G.Mac Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) Sold as seen, tell him to go away in your finest Glasgow accent "F OFF" Your mate sold the car in good fath, A different answer could have come about if this paul guy didnt make threats Hope all goes well Graeme Edited November 14, 2007 by G.Mac
sparky_sj04 Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Nothing good is going to come of it if the pr### comes up, so get your mate to blankly tell him that it's a waste of time, the money is spent, and maybe a swift F___ OFF might speak his language.. Might be an idea just to inform the cops just in case anything does happen then at least they'll be keener to do something.. Pretty bad situation though dude, i'm not really saying much everyone hasn't already but hope it works out.. Scum of the earth people like that..
chris_c201 Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I'm from the general Clydebank vicinity, never heard the name but sounds like the kind of guy i wouldn't be trying to get to know anyway! As someone that has just sold a car privately 2 days ago i must admit the whole process worried me slightly, thankfully i got a really decent genuine guy and hopefully won't hear anything more of it. Silly question but does he know where your mate actually lives (did he go to the house to see that car?) Bit late now but i arranged to meet somewhere neutral in both the times someone came to see the car. Sorry i can't be of further help and i hope nothing comes of it, only advice i could give has already happened with contacting the police. Chris
thefastone Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I belive that it was all done at his house... so yeah... looks like its going to be soon, I hope he does not bother....
dan_jess Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 This isnt very good news at all. Hope it gets sorted out. But, looking at it from the other guys point of view, i know i wouldnt be happy if a car i had just bought wasnt all that it first seemed. Im not implying that i think that of this car, im just pointing out that it can happen and obviously any of us would be wanting our money back aswell. The guy shouldnt have made threats and should be trying to prove that the car has accident history as he seems to think it does. Private sale tho, sold as seen. Anyway as i said before i hope it all gets sorted
RA Dunk Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 ive seen this car loads of times and cant for the life of me say ive ever seen a mark on it
l2 nrm Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 do any of youz think he has bought the car swapped the plate vin no etc on to another car (possably stolen)insurance scam or that?how manny people would get scared of him doin that and end up takin the car back?a few proberly i bet ! i personaly would imform the police incase he does come back wouldnt want anything to kick off!

thefastone Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 well if the shore leave had not ended at 4 for us sailing not long after, then I would have been up for you Dez, just bad timing... not that it really matters but when your thinking about saftey in numbers, then its the more the merrier... I hope that sooner or later, he realises that he is being a muppet, and gives up... Yeah, and to mirror someone elses comments, I hope the bobbies are on the ball keeping an eye out, I belive that they have cameras linked to the ANPR(????) police database, so that they can check every car that comes or goes from the city... cant remember where I heard that, I;m sure someone might know that, so they can trigger an alert if a particular reg plate comes through...? (I dont know where I heard that, does anyone know if thats right?) I'd like to think that they might lift him before he could get as far as your house...?
