weird noise

My car is making a strange noise when i turn the key. :?

Its happening when the key is on the final click just before it clicks once more to start,if you know what that mean ;) .

The noise is like a motor on an ariel going up or the wiper spray pump.

This happens for a couple of seconds, stops,  then the car starts as normal.

Ive never noticed this before but what worries me is that ive been cleaning inside the engine bay (dry so its not a water short)but have been moving about pipes wires etc.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Sounds like fuel pump to me too. The Walbro I have fitted is noisier than the standard. A mate of mine commented about it as he heard it going when I'd turned the ignition but hadn't started the car.

Hope it is ive had a look and thats what im wondering too.

The fuel is very low, can this make it sound louder?

Could it be on its way out as it definatly sounds louder than usual but it is an uprated one thats only been on a few months.

Defo sounds like your fuel pump.

Wait till your hear mines......it just keep priming....

Continually with the engine not running and ignition on?

It runs longer than a std ecu but should still cut out eventually.

Yes...doesn't cut out with the GEMS ECU[:|]

It should cut out at some point Peter. Might be 20 seconds or thereabouts, but should still cut out. If you've got a fuel pressure gauge, check the pressure doesn't go to zero when you switch off the ignition.

Apologies for thread hijack, this should be talked about elsewhere.
