got a 01 bugeye wrx, fsh @ s&s in ayr, always use dealer for service, got 60,000 service last month, had to stop on way home as back brakes were smokin, handbrake overtightend, took it back and they re-,adjusted handbrake no apology, strong smell of oil after a week, put  it down to spilage , checked level & it was an inch over the notch, took car back they agreed oil was to high and drained some, still smell of oil after a month, know it can cause boost problems, not impressed, pay dealer rates to avoid this kind of thing, anyone had same problems with a dealer

Correct - not what you'd expect.  We were discussing this type of thing at the Edinburgh Lothians meet - go back and ask for a more satisfactory explanation, maybe some sort of apology?

I took mine to S & S for a quote after I bent it in January as they have an in house bodyshop. Wasn't impressed with them and they gave the impression that they didn't have the first clue what they were doing. It was looked at briefly before they concluded it wasn't too bad and they would have it sorted in two days. Whilst I was there I asked them about the squealing brakes and was met with the response "Do you service it correctly?". When I pointed out I hadn't had it long enough for it to need a service I was told "The place you bought it from clearly didn't check it before you bought it, take it back to them". They were to contact me the following week with the full quote for the insurance but didn't even bother following it up, not that I would have used them anyway. The service, attitude and apparent knowledge of the car were just dreadful.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

In reality it was a £3k job that took 2 and a half weeks. As for the squealing brakes, Greers sorted me out with some new pads at very reasonable rates, excellent service and an SIDC discount [Y]

If it needs a main dealer then I would use Ian Grieve.

Never used S&S and after reading this, I never will. Over filling the oil is amateurish and potentially costly. A word to Subaru Head Office is due. [:@]

Blimey....that's where I bought my car a few weeks ago and had planned to take it there to be serviced! That's 2 with a negative......anyone got a positive or should I be getting my servicing done elsewhere? I live near Beith so S&S is relatively handy but I don't mind going into Glasgow.

My car certainly seems fine to me so far......

Hi Guys

I have bought 2 Scoobs of John at S+S before and have them a total of 6.5 years, i have always used S+S for the serviceing and still will.

Who did you deal with regards the oil problem?

If i have had the car in and it comes out with hand prints all over the paint, then i have told John about it and i even get an apology for that, it means he can pull the boys up for not washing the car.

Ours is due a service in 2 weeks and it will still go to S+S as i feel they are more competative with there prices and i know i can go back to them if there was ever a problem.

There is always 2 sides to a story.

Cheers Dougie

I have to agree with dougie there, i have bought my 2 scoobs from John and with 6 years of owning  them i have only ever had one issue whereby i wasnt happy. The car was promtly booked in ( they even offered to travel to Rutherglen to uplift it and return it) the issues were attended to and a small dent on the front leading edge of the bonett which i had done hitting a bird, was repaired at no cost.

I have my 30k service looming and will almost certainly return there.

The only problem S&s apopear to have is when you phone they dont call back as soon as would be hoped ( as of me when i called on Tuesday to discuss a new car) and i am still waiting for a call!!!

So john if you are reading this ,the weekend is nearly upon us [:D]

Dougie, don't know the name of the guy who dealt with oil problem, he had black hair & was probably in his forties.

I,ve had my car serviced at S&S before without any problems, but would expect something as routine as changing oil or adjusting a handbrake to be done correctly

and checked before the car left the workshop

It is all really about first impressions. If you take the car somewhere, get a good first impression and they do a good job you will take it back. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

When I was looking to buy my car, I spoke to S+S who said they would keep my name on file if they got anything in. But when I went to Ian Grieve, they searched the length and breadth of the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />UK to find me a car, and what a mint car they found!

When I take it in to get a quote for accident repairs they only half look at it and never follow it up with a quote when they said they will. When asked about the brakes they suggest I hadn't serviced it correctly [:@]. I had my girlfriend (who knows nothing about cars) with me at time and she was horrified with them and when we got back in the car she turned round and said "you are not taking your car to them, they didn't even look at it properly".

Any post about a dealer will get both positive and negative comments as this one has and whilst I am sure there are many happy S+S customers, they had their chance with me and the first impression was dreadful. Therefore, I wouldn't be happy leaving my car with them.

HI Guys

Yip i will 100% agree with you there, first impressions last and i know the feeling.

I will agree about the oil change i doubt i would have been happy either, but that is your department to deal with as you see fit no one else can tell you.

I felt the same as you but with Ian Grieve in Falkirk its as if they couldnt give a damn about  customers( well thats the way it felt to me and my wife) when i walked in took a look about stood for 5 minutes then walked out,not one word was said, and i aint been back since.Maybe they are diffrent no a days though

And yes you are right about positive and negative comments about dealers that wass the reason i said there is always 2 sides to a story.

Cheers Dougie

on most occasions m8 there is only one salesman in the dealership, this is no excuse for you not being spoken to,but if we were with customers then it is physically impossible to speak to every person that walks through the door.

HI M8

I think there were 2 poeple in, one was sitting at the desk in the office and the other just floated passed me( Could have been busy). If they were dealing with someone then i could have understood.

That was over a year ago now, these things dont grind away at me, its just one of these things.

I also been promised phone calls back from the Halleys branch about trading in a P1 and trying to get a price but they 2 dount seem to bother to much, as if my buisness aint to important to them.

S+S are the closet to me so that is why i use them

bought 2 scoobies from s&s. the most recent is a spec D wrx sti. fantastic service to get the car. also recommended my mate to their garage for his RB320 he has on order. went in for accident repairs and as was away for the weekend in the middle they had the car for a week, went back to get it and they hadnt done all the work. think this is ridiculous. they are also very slow at returning calls. as other people have said seems to be swings and roundabouts. good service one time and poorer the next. cant fault the cars though and the servicing has been good. seriously though, as due for service soon - would other people really recommend going elsewhere?
