glidester Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Hi, I recently took my Impreza into a garridge to get a basic service (oil, filters, and plugs) but since getting it back the "Engine Check" light has started to come on while driving. I took it to my local Subaru/Ford dealers a while back on an unrelated issue and they could not find where the connection socket for the ECU was on my car. I could really do with taking the car to a specialist who know about jap imports but I live in Lincs and there don't appear to be any close by (Nottingham is the closest I know of). Can anyone recommend a good garridge in the Lincs area that know about jap import Impreza? (or near Lincs!) Can anyone make a guess as to what the service mechnanics have screwed up? Does anyone know where to locate the ECU socket on a 1996 jap Impreza? Thanks in advance! Tim

insane clown Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 hi mate welcome to the club, don't waste your money going to a garage to find the problem, there are4 plugs under steering column, 2x black and 2x green, they may be taped up nice and tidy, just undo so you can get to them. the 2 black conectors once connected will check for fault codes (your flashing cel light)....and if you conect the green ones too....this will do a reset after you have checked the codes...my advise is to just conect the black ones and watch your cel light, it will flash out a code...i'll put a link up so you can have a look http://www.saxonfields.freeserve.co.uk/Sco...Diag%20Page.htm this will tell you everything you want to know, mark
glidester Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 Thanks guys. That article was very helpful. I've managed to track the fault down to the "Vehical Speed Sensor 2". My speedo did break a few weeks back but I just assumed it was a cable break and would not affect the ECU. I'm hoping that once I get the speedo fixed this fault will go away. Again thanks for all your help, this site is a great resource! Tim
