Richie Cross Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Hello folks, Newbie here...2nd post because I'd said hello on the general discussion forum. Thought I'd best do the same on my 'home' forum. I'm delighted to be here as last weekend I bought my first Subaru. Got an '05 WRX wagon in Crystal Grey. Lucky for me, the previous owner had put the PPP on as well! [] which I'm more than happy with. Also got a good insurance deal through Gary at Keith Michaels....thanks to some research on this site before I actually joined. So, am I going mad? I ask this because I'm only picking the car up on Monday but I'm going mad waiting!!!! I've only driven it for a few miles on the test drive and now can't wait to get it. Each day seems to be dragging and I'm keeping myself awake at nights thinking about it!!! Is this normal or is a case of 'Welcome to Subaru ownership'? [] I'm already planning ahead with regards to keeping it nice and shiny but I've never been one for polishing etc with previous cars. I'm determined to start now!! I've had a quick look about on the forum and it seems that to keep the car clean, I should be looking at Polished Bliss? I'm a bit bewildered at all the products though. Will it be fine if I buy their cheapest cleaning/washing/waxing etc product and go from there? Clay bars???!!!! Will it be possible to make the car look worse!!? So, delighted to be here and soooo looking forward to Monday. I couldn't stop smiling on the test drive. Thought my wife was going to be sick!! [] Cheers, Richie

colzo Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Hello and welcome Richie. You are not mad but once you`ve been on this forum for a few months you will be! Regards to cleaning of your car, Polished Bliss are highly recommend. If you look on their site there are some really helpful guides. I too have Crystal Grey and I use mostly Swissol products which I find really good. This would be my cleaning regime - 1. Wash car with Swissol Car Bath (using 2 buckets (1 for rinsing) and a 100% cotton Wash Cloth) 2. Clay the whole car using Meguiars Clay Bar and Quick Detailing Spray 3. Polish the car a panel at a time using Swissol cleaning Fluid 4. Wax the whole car using Swissol Samurai Wax Now I`m no pro. but this works for me. You would only need to clay and polish once a year (say when all the salt/grit is away) then wash every 2 weeks and wax every 4-6 weeks. Different products will give you different finishes (shiny, wet look etc). I`m happy with the results and protection that Swissol gives. Colin
boris b Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Hi mate... It'll not be long before you start to purchase bits no bobz from this site.....it cannot be helped....[]

Hopefully I will, but the wife never will []

I sound like I've never washed a car before!!! I have but was just happy that it looked clean.....not clean and good!! Swissol should be a good place to start as well. Guess I'll soon find out what I prefer or don't. Shiny/wet.....think clean and shiny would do for me. The Polished Bliss site was saying to 'clean' the car before washing it? Would a rinse do? When you're waxing, what kind of cloth etc is best....like you say the cotton cloth for washing. Lastly......you'll be glad to hear......what about the cleaning then protecting of your wheels? Cheers
colzo Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Richie A good rinse with a hose or pressure washer before washing is enough to get all the loose dirt off. I use foam applicator pads for the polish and wax and then 100% cotton terry towel cloths to take them back off, finishing with a brisk buffing with a microfibre cloth. My tips would be do NOT use a sponge, always use 2 buckets and clay before you polish (you think the paintwork is clean until you clay it!), as it leaves the paint glass like and preperation is most important for the finish. For the wheels stay away from acid based cleaners such as Wonder Wheels as they will eventually eat into the alloy. Prevention is better than cure so if you have new wheels I would use Swissol Cleaner Fluid polish then Swissol Autubahn Wheel Wax. If your wheels are bad I would suggest AutoGlym Engine Cleaner then a Clay Bar then polish and wax as before. Hope this helps but I must stress everyone has there own opinions on products. IMO the products I use are safe and do what they say on the tin and I am more than happy with the results. If you want a deeper shine to your Grey then PB have a Jeffs product that will give the desired results. Colin []
