gus the bus Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Alan, http://www.scoobybits.co.uk/shop_exhausts.htm are listing them as available @ £295.(2-3 working days for delivery) Check them oot Gus
Guest AlanK Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Ok more confused than ever TSL - who told me they have a ninja on a test car and it just failed its MOT, not to mention their pipe used to be about 500 and has been reduced to 400 and is the same cat as used by the peugot wrc cars? lifetime warranty and different class if you believe everything they say (but also the most expensive) OR for 100 less the generic looking ones at Exhaustuk or Soobybits - neither of which mention anything about waranty "This Part fits from the Turbo to the Centre Section. Made from Tig Welded Grade T304 Stainless Steel. Open Neck Design with 3"Pipework and 100 or 200 cell Sports Cat. " (think this may be 3" all the way so probably rules that one out (anyone know if PPP is 2.5" or 3"?) or "Manufactured in 304 stainless steel wth open neck design, narrowing to the standard 2.5" at centre section flange." Descriptive huh! And defo confusing. Kind leaning towards the TSL one as it just seems a bit more profesionaly and starting to be a little sceptical about sub £300 systems..
st3ph3n Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I would imagine the TSL is available in 2.5" or 3" at the centre section. Just decat it though.
gus the bus Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 TSL is i'm pretty sure 3" pipework with a 2.5" flange so assuming you have a 2.5" system should fit perfectly. Gus
GaryD Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Quote TSL is i'm pretty sure 3" pipework with a 2.5" flange so assuming you have a 2.5" system should fit perfectly. Gus Gus is correct, its 3" pipework on the sportscat downpipe. We've got a full TSL system with sportscat downpipe, seems to be a good bit of kit, altho I've had no experience of any other systems.
Guest AlanK Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Gonna just ot for the TSL one since some folk have tried and tested it and now wary of sub 300 sports Cats - next question is how long can I run it without a remap and what should I do/avoid doing between install and remap? Just been speaking to someone that has filled me with dread that I cant even drive from the install to Andy without a det and #4 something blowing up - suspect that is a bit of scare mongering but what is the real story? Alan
Guest AlanK Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 oh and do I need heatwrap any more than the TSL one already has?
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 1) you may as well shove on some extra heat wrap while the pipe is off 2) get a remap ..............a) peace of mind and it will go like a rocket ship ! The TSL pipe is the one they fit on the TSL333 package .............. Mine was sailed through my MOT even though it was second hand........come MOT time time I dont need to lift a finger. No insurance woes or emissions testing fears either CGS
Guest AlanK Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Spoke TSL either ceramic or heat shield comes fitted these days - say that is fine and have been running them for 4yrs without problem tho as you say will no doubt stick some more on depending on who fits it in the end. I was going to get Geo to fit it along with the whiteline stuff but the car need serviced aswell so between that and the remap not being until the 20th April I may get it done then rather than in the next couple of weeks. Defo getting a remap just wondering about the time between fitting and mapping.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 tootle about off boost and you wont do any damage........
Guest AlanK Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 yeah but it has PPP so it starts up at less than 3K - usually about 2400 is the first sign of it and my bluddy IAM instructors wants me to "use the full engine range, you wont damage it".... well I have an argument for that one now...
st3ph3n Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Alan, the small turbos hit full boost very early. I've got 1.35bar by 3K now.
Guest AlanK Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Starting to think I will leave the Sports Cat until closer to the 20th April and perhaps get it fitted at Hypertec (and see if they can supply it) when I get the Geometry setting checked. Either that or at Extreme when I get the car serviced. New problem tho - compared my centre pipe to a standard centre pipe of another classic and despite being told several times that PPP means the centre section would have been replaced it certainly does not look like it has. Unless it doesnt have a Cat inside it and just follows the same format?? If this is the case I need to speak to Nobles as they fitted the PPP and have since told me it had been removed... If indeed I need to also replace this - resonated centre section or straight through section from Gus?
gus the bus Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Alan, I'm not sure whether the centre section is replaced on the classic for PPP tbh. Deffo isnt on the newage. I have a straight through sitting here to go on my car but can get another if you want it!!!? Deffo would go for for Straight thru over resonated. I'm sure Mr F would tell you the same. Gus
Guest AlanK Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 How much for one of yours then sir? Gonna make a few calls tomorrow me thinks to try and get to the bottom of this as found details on the Prodrive site that it would have been replaced as part of PPP and it Nobles knew exactly what car I was talking about at the time (they fitted it I think) Bit wary about it adding too much noise and droan on long journeys - I am keeping the Prodrive back box to stop it getting OTT and although I want a bit more I dont want that much extra noise.
gus the bus Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 £100 of your finest pounds! quality is top notch! TBH, it gives a nice deep tone more than extreme noise and drone (particularly with a Prodrive BB) just ask Alan G, Marky TS and numerous others who have fitted them recently. let me know mate if you want as it will be going on my car this sunday if you dont.......or i'll get another sent up if you do. Cheers Gus PS gasket included!
Guest AlanK Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Apparently there is a Prodrive centre section which is actually mounted within the standard heat casing of a normal centre section which may be all I am seeing - not sure how to find out one way or other at moment without taking it off. Also reading about the resonated version - seems to be favoured for being a bit less of a drone, especially in a waggon - however this may all be in the ear of the listner and nothing really mentions it with a Prodrive BB. Dont hold of fitting yours - whatever happens I will be trying to have this done as close to the 20th April as possible so dont need it just yet. Will let you know ASAP Edit: Prodrive advertisment for MY99 also states upgraded centre section.. gonna have to actually take it off and have a look - only I cant get under the car and have no access to ramp. Need to speak to Geo tomorrow about the Whiteline stuff so perhaps he can shine a torch down it..
