petermorling Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Hi there, i am about to renew the t/belt on my '95 scooby turbo, is there any special way to do it and make sure it all lines up again. Any help appreciated. Many Thanks Peter
WUZ Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Yes there is M8. Give Wilky or Fai17 a shout and they'll sort you out with the relevent details you need. I'd help you myself but I ain't at home and I'm useless at this tuning/building/servicing lark! Russell.

colin_ross Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 All the pulleys and the belts have timing marks, line them up like so
johnnyr6 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 As playsatan says the belt has marks for all pulleys, the dotted line is for the crank pulley. A little mirror comes in handy for checking the bottom pully marks but not essential. Remove idler G3 (above pick) and fit it last before releasing the tensioner, makes it easier. Oh, removing the rad helps. Apart from that its just the same precautions as any timing belt.
colin_ross Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Not a problem. Would have typed a fuller response (cheers John) but hadn't been to bed for 22 hours when I wrote my reply. Anyway, a picture is worth a thousand words.
drb5 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Just to add to Colin and Johnnys repies, i remove the G1 pulley also. When it comes to replacing G1, rotate the crank back a fraction, to give the belt some slack, put the pulley on and then move the crank back to its proper position. This takes the slack back to the tensioner.
craig mac Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 A wee dab of Tipp-ex on the marks is also helpful. Helps you see the marks a lot easier And another pair of hands, just to assist is always a good thing[] Workshop manual cd's are great things[] The above instruction re belt is also available in the community in a PDF. format if required
WUZ Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Make sure you rotate the crank a couple of turns (clockwise) after all is fitted and then double check the timing marks as they can slip a tooth or 2. Remember that when you close up the pin on the tensioner and fit the lockpin...DO IT SLOWLY! It has hydraulic fluid in it and you dont want to damage the seal. If your fitting a new Tensioner then this has been done for you already. Russell
wrxmania Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Or do what most of us do - don't balls it up - take it to a decent garage - not worth getting wrong. Brian []
