andy findlay Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 i bought a scoobyecu from s taylor the chip is a 28 pin and it needs to be soldered to the spare slot on the ecu does anyone know someone who can do this for me and is a pro at solderin help please
wilky Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I only know of one man that I know has done it in Scotland and he has dropped off the face of the earth. Theres more to it than just soldering the chip on, On SN I seem to recall a few people offering to do it but they may have moved on to bigger and better things, you would have to send it off to them. Do a search on SN (Scoobynet) to check. Someone on here like Harvey may be able to point you in the right direction, he also posts on SN. Good Luck Callum W
JohnSt Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 If you are anywhere near Glasgow I'll do it for you. Don't have a lot of time at the mo, so you'd have to bring it to me. ---john---

euan_r Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 also ee qualified here. where are u based? got old 4 pin ecu with socket already in it if thats any use!
andy findlay Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 am based in ayrshire and really want this chip fitted to give me a good amount of power john were in glasgow are you ? the chip i have is a 28 pin and looking at the ecu and all the soldering points why did subaru not fit a chip cradlle to all the jap imports aswell
andy findlay Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 ewan what ecu code is on the front of the ecu ??
euan_r Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 its a v7 but if you put a chip in and cut a resistor it by passes original map anyway. then keep your original untouched. just a thought like as its lying about. either that or get yours soldered locally. []
andy findlay Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 would a v7 ecu work on my jdm import ?? my current ecu is a 2c
euan_r Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 if your ecu takes four plugs to connect it im sure it will. The map currently on it will give u less power as its for a very early uk turbo running a td05. However it does have the socket to accept a chip in it. It came like this from the factory and hasnt been added on later. If u put the chip in the socket and cut a small resistor, the map on the board is no longer used but the one on your chip will be. As long as the chip you have is suitable for your car then there should be no problems. not looking for much if u wanted it. hope this helps am sure someone will add later if i am wrong. Pretty sure its right though as i did a bit of digging when i swapped it out for a z4 ecu (jap wrx).
andy findlay Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 i will get back to you soon mate thanks
JohnSt Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 The way I would/have do/done this is to solder in a socket. That way the EPROM will not be damaged and you can take the map/chip with you if you change cars. More importantly, as well as just cutting the link to de-select the original map, the fitting of a remote (dash mounted ?) switch, replacing the link, means you can switch between maps on the fly. Anyway, I was offering to help out, but I'm afraid you've missed the boat as I'm not going to have the time in the next few weeks as .I have my own car to get ready. Not enough hours in the day from now on in........ ---john---
