smells like matches?

When my car is warmed up and i m giving a bit of welly, i notice a slight smell of matches. it is only when the turbo is on so im guessing thats where the smell is coming from, any ideas? (99 impreza).

Hi mate just wondered what type of fuel you are running on ?

I run on Shell Vpower as do most scooby owners and i do notice a slight smell once the car has warmed,not sure if it smells like matches though maybe someone else will shed some light on this.

I  noticed  a strange smell also.  Mine still has all cat's fitted. Wonder if it's down to that ?

Shell may have added some phosphorus to the new formula along the way?

Leaking (brake) fluid contacting hot egine components ? just an idea ? could be other liquid as 5.1 etc have very high boiling points

Time for a decat proboably the smell is usualy caused by your cat breaking down assuming that you still have one otherwise it may be unburnt fuel like the others say.

sounds like uve got oil dripping on the exhaust thats what mine smelt like when ma crank seal started leaking mate

i think it has to do with the type of fuel as different kinds are stronger smelling than others.

anyway i have a zippo!
