Guest Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 my 93 wrx import has developed a hole in the exhaust ive got an unknown stainless from the cat back but the hole is in the pipe just after the cat next to the hanger. the question is should i de-cat it fix the pipe and keep it for the next mot or just weld it as is? the thing is ive never worked on a subaru before is it a big job to remove it myself? and wheres the best place to order a de-cat if i go that route? cheers neil
oz *sti* Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 De-cat all the way mate, easy mod to do and keep the catted down pipe for MOT time, then just swap the down pipes round for the MOT then back again - well that's what I do any way []. (i'm not sure if your car will need a remap or not - but I'm sure other techie guys will be able to confirm that for you) Many people on here get the exhausts from http://www.meercat-exhausts.com/ they can make them as loud or as quite as you want and all custom made perfect fit to your car.
drb5 Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 It's prolly not a CAT mate, but a silencer. Surprised it's got a hole in it, if it's stainless steel though? Might be mild steel which is easier to weld...
johnnyr6 Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 A De-cat will give more power so if thats what you want go for it. You'll need the cat for mot times unless you can find a sympathetic mot station. As for removing, It's pretty easy if you can swing a spanner. Once you move the stuff to get at the turbo end (heatshield etc.) there are 6 nuts at the turbo end, a couple of mounting brakets which can be a pain to get at and then just seperate the downpipe from the exhaust. Use plenty of wd40 on bolts before you start. Hayward and scott do a good downpipe (open neck) or look through the for sale section, you might find one second hand.
Guest Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 cheers guys dave its the downpipe section just after the cat then its flanged then its the stainless from then on i might just weld it this weekend and get a decat downpipe somewhere? neil
drb5 Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I undersatnd now bud. You should be able to get a standard downpipe cheap enough if you wanna do that? You can get decat downpipes for about £80+ secondhand mind you...
Guest Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 i have a std downpipe for a classic. of the car, not stainless steel or anything like that. alan
