allan_browne Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Went to lock my car last night after being out and key fob did not lock car, replaced battery in fob, still would not work, not being an owner for very long i am lost as to what the problem might be, could it be that the fob has gone faulty or something to do with the sensor in the car. Prior to that, obviously the fob worked fine, it was only when i got back home and tried to lock the car that the problem arose, car is a 05 plate WRX still under warranty, so have organised with Eden Subaru for them to look at it, but biggest problem i have is actually getting it up to Cupar []
Dougie C Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Snoopy Sorry to hear that your having problems with your key fob, I am not sure if your trying your key fob at another location. Wilky, has wrote something like that in the past few months and it turned out to be new radio masts etc can interfer with the radio waves of the fobs. But if you have had no problems in the past then ignore me lol Dougie
st3ph3n Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 It's a problem with some older cars, but the 05WRX should be fine. I know for definite that a location affected by the problem on the earlier cars didn't cause me any problems with mine.

But if you have had no problems in the past then ignore me lol Dougie Hi Dougie, Have not had a problem with fob in the past at my house, it's always worked fine, was at a customers house last night fixing her laptop, fob worked fine then for getting into car and dissabling immobiliser, was only when i got home and tried to lock the car after parking it up that fob never worked, i changed the battery several times and even checked with a meter that the battery was fine which it was, so i don't really know if it is the fob that is the problem or something to do with the car, i have spoken to Eden Subaru, who in my opinion are not really interested in looking at this problem, as my car is under warranty can i take it to another garage for them to look at it of does it need to go to the dealer from whom i bought it from?
st3ph3n Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 If the car still has the 3 year manufacturers warranty then any garage should be able to deal with it.
allan_browne Posted January 16, 2007 Author Posted January 16, 2007 Any recommendations as to a garage near the Glenrothes area that would possibly look at my problem?
Mako Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Alan, Give Brenda a call at John R Weir Perth 01738 477710. Tell her you bought the car from me and she will sort you out. I'm off today but back at the garage tomorrow. If you need a car then Brenda will sort that out.[] Russ

I would take the car up to Perth but unfortunetly i am at work and struggling to get time off to get car sorted hence the reason for asking if there was a garage closer to me as i could get it there on my lunch hour. How are you doing anyhow, long time no hear, i hope everything is going fine for you and look forward to seeing ou at one of the meets in the future. Allan.
weatherman22 Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Hmm mine has just started this nonsense too - but is not related to where I am parked. It is as though the fob battereis are done but I replaced them, and the originals tested OK on a multimeter. the red LED is bright enough. It has gradually become less reliable, requiring numerous presses, and now it barely works at all. It is almost as though the frequency emitted by the fob has drifted so that it is harder to pick up by the board under the bonnet. I only have one fob now as the other one stopped working entirely after the battery fell out - it then became completely unprogrammable and the LED just flashed when the button was pressed. I am
allan_browne Posted January 16, 2007 Author Posted January 16, 2007 When i spoke to Eden Subaru, all they suggested was to use the keypad down by the stearing colum and dissable the engin immobiliser everytime i wanted to use the car, this is alright as an emergency procedure, but definetly not as a long term solution, when garages suggest something like that as a fix for the problem, you just start to lose faith in them, i need this sorted as soon as possible but still don't know if it the fob os something more serious that is causing the problem, i cant really see it being the fob as i have never had this type of problem with any car i have had in the past that used a fob for unlocking the doors and dissableing the immobiliser, but then again, i have not had much experience with "Scoobies" so don't know if this is a common fault or not, still does not help me meantime as it's a pain in the butt as everytime i need to drive my car i have to enter the code twice just to start her up.[:@]
allan_browne Posted January 16, 2007 Author Posted January 16, 2007 hold it to your head! ussualy works LOL, that reminds me of a time me and a mate were just up passed pitlochry looking at some sapplings his company had planted a few months prior to that, we were about 600 yards away from his Renault Scenic and he pointed his fob towards his car, never done anything, he then put the tip of the key to his head, pressed the fob button, and his indicator lights flashed as they would when the car unlocks.[*-)] Believe me, i actually tried it last night when my fob never worked, but unfortunetly it still never worked, mind you with saying that, my Fiancee keeps telling me that my head if full of crap most of the time.!! [^o)]
RS Grant Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Shame that Eden are being that way, but to be honest, if you can arrange a courtesy car with Weir's in Perth then that might be the answer... Drop it off first thing in the morning/last thing at night with them and pick it up when finished, plus, you get a nice drive through from Glenrothes->Glenfarg way. [H] Worth a wee bit of extra effort to get things sorted out properly, sounds like very poor aftercare from Eden. [:^)] Cheers, Grant
allan_browne Posted January 16, 2007 Author Posted January 16, 2007 I spent 5 mins on phone to Brenda (Really Nice Lady) from JR Weir, no messing around, asked me to bring car up tomorrow afternoon for 2pm and they will have a look at it for me and repair under warranty if it is not the fob, simple and as easy as that, no messing around with have you tried this and have you tried that, straight to the point, first calss is all i an say.[Y] Lets hope it's nothing serious to rectify the problem. Only thing they required was the original registration number but i never had that to hand as i am at work, she advised thats not a problem, they can get that from chassis number, but i will look in the paperwork i have for car just incase it's there somewhere. Thanks Russ for the advise, look forward to dealing with JR Weir.[] And a big thanks to all who replied to my original post, will put an update on here when i find out what the problem was.
allan_browne Posted January 18, 2007 Author Posted January 18, 2007 Well, it was found that the key fob had lost it code for some strange reason, it got re-coded and all is working fine now, Brenda is ordering up a spare fob for me aswell.[Y] Would like to take this oppertunity to thank both Russ and Brenda from JR Weir for all their help on this issue, and cannot fault their service, thank you very much. P.S - Russ, your cuppa was excellent by the way. []
cullenmin Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Glad you got it sorted mate, 10 points for JR Weir![Y] Rich
