Induction kits question ?

Recommended Posts

I have seen a few induction kits on Ebay recently and wondered if they are a worthwhile add on. I am no engine doctor to say the least, but just asking if they are worth the money (ranging from about £50 to £250) against better power and/or efficiency.

Thanks for any help.

Alan, depends what they are mate??? put some links up and we can see wots on offer.Mind you will need a remap withthe scoob if you fit a full induction kit.

I would have a look @ www.revolution.eu.com and scoobyworld etc.... for a few ideas. APS get good reviews too.

Thanks Gus, Had a quick Look.

Doesn't offer much more than 12 bhp but is it worth the £100 nicker or so.

In me Fiesta XR2i days it would have been a blast. But already having 230 odd is it worth it - I don't know?

A remap is a few bob also though.

Is Duncan at Hypertech the man to speak to ?

think it all depends how far you want to go tbh!!!? Are you planning on further exhaust upgrades ie decats etc.... each bit adds a few bhp but i'd think its best to start with the bits that dont need remap etc... first and add things like induction kits when your ready to do remap. Are you running PPP exhaust or standard exhaust set up @ the mo?

A decat pipe and deresonted centre section and Back box would be a good starting point if not.

Cheers

As I said Gus, I have no idea on tweaking the scoob. (heard about an induction kit through hear say)

Maybe a new thread on the basic tweaking up at a lower level ,  to the real expensive stuff , and maybe an insight as to what insurance companies will accept or not.

I've noticed on the site that you are all really well clued up with mods etc. (Spoke to G.Mac and Squirrell at Knockers - sound blokes - but I was a bit lost really)..  [:S]

Any help would be gratefull.

I put ind. kit on my classic(after reading a gay tuning mag.i thought it sounded cool,)3 weeks later i ended up at AWD in Perth ,poofed the MAF and C o2 sensor,200 Squid later ,original airbox back on ,car runing sweet as a nut.Well you live and learn.

So Alan get advice from a person who knows what thier talking about before buying anything.

Alan, thats why I'd start with exhaust first mate[:)]. Or, even changing your standard panel filter with a K&N or Green-Cotton filter is a good start on the breathing side of things IMHO.

go-back box, with deresonated centre section, cat-pipe and panel filter to start with IMHO. All done without a £500 remap.

If you decide to go for the full monty with decat, induction kit, Front mount intercooler etc later then you can get it remapped then.

Gus ,does your mate still do de-res. centre pipes?can he do 1 for a uk turbo ,or, is it just if theres enough interest i.e. more than one?mibbies interested in one around March.(financial reasons,.....dont ask!!!!)

Alan I would be very careful about an induction kit, as Mark has already been mention it can destroy your maf sensor etc.

Certainly on the new age cars the standard air box is very efficient, for the mods you have on at the mo I think a K&N/STi panel filter would be the best option. If however you want a bit more of an induction roar then APS is probably your best bet but I would recommend a remap once fitted.

This snorkel/resonator thingy ,is it on my car? if so is it worth the bother removing it? any advantage really,or is it just for the induction noise(which i like btw[:P]) Will removing it knacker my MAF again,as a previous try with ind. kit did,its now standard with upgraded panel.Any info welcome as i do not frequent the oily parts very often.
