cusco kid Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 right guys what do you think is the best rally car in the last 30years its just that i am sick of a pile of doooooo doooooo threads geo ex rally driver[6]
4Hero Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 the Audi Quattro S1 has to be my favourite. Scroll the horizontal bar to see the full image []
marky.t.s Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Audi Quattro for me Geo,was it called S1 when it first popped and banged through a rally stage(im not too clever on the model numbers ,evolutions ,etc.) Anyway ,my reason is simple,if it wasnt for Audi bringing AWD and reliable turboe'd engines, what do you think we would all be driving today???? No dought my theory will be shot down in flames, but ,thats my opinion, and hey its a better topic than Poo,Poo. Cheers, Mark.
marky.t.s Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Ah well,4Hero beat me to it,i'm so needing typing lessons,LOL.
wilky Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Yup gotta go with the audi Quattro but my fav was the S2 specially prepared for Pikes Peak for uncle Volter in 1987. They were big, heavy had a 50/50 diff you had to LFB to unlock, and were only on top of Gp B because no one else was doing turbo 4wd when they came along in 1981. Walter stepped off the plane, jetlagged never having set foot on the route in his life before and took 2 min of the world record stating afterwards that he made too many mistakes and it was worth another 25 seconds to him. Pugeot studied his in car footage for a year and preped a Ti16 gp B quattro slayer for the 88 run. Ari Vatanen only managed to take a second off walters record despite his preperation. He refused the prize stating the Mountain belonged to Walter.
4Hero Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 The audi was amazing, if it wasn't for that car I don't think I would be driving what I do now. The Audi got me into rallying on tv, which led to the rs200, metro 6r4, then eventually fell in love with the scooby. The rest is history []
irish al Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Scroll the horizontal bar to see the full image Whats this all about, I have seen threads mention this a few times, but i definately dont have any horizontal bar anywhere ??? Al
4Hero Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Quote Scroll the horizontal bar to see the full image Whats this all about, I have seen threads mention this a few times, but i definately dont have any horizontal bar anywhere ??? Al Depends on your screen resolution Al.. Mine is 1280x 1024 so not a major problem, but if it was 1024x768 you would get a scrollbar and only half the image in your view. Resize your windoe to see what happens []
irish al Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Mine is 1280x 1024 as well, probably why i dont see it then. Al
z1000 Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Got to be the 6R4 just for the noise [] and the fact there still great today.

z1000 Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Chevette HSR. I actually had one that looked identical just minus the floor [:S]
4Hero Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 chevette's were hilarious cars, years ago, my mate had one, he walked into my house one day with his gear stick in his hand []
z1000 Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Know that feeling first-came on cam-tail end out-second-oh feck that aint right as i pulled the stick right out the box ! []
4Hero Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 lol, he decided one day that we all get together and beat the living hell out the car, every single panel was kicked, punched, headbutted, and eventually scrapped. wee shame really []
st3ph3n Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Whilst I enjoy the quattro a lot, especially with Walter behind the wheel, and there's a special place in my heart for the Lancia Delta S4 my favourite is this: http://www.suzukisport.com/motorsport/hill...gallery/002.jpg 2.7 litre v6 with twin turbos, 995bhp etc. etc. For me it's the real progression of Group B technology and it's fantastic.
marky.t.s Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 qUATTRO-A rally legend,is always on Audi channel ,Sky digital ch.884,plus several other little publicity progs.about Quattros, rallying ,etc. Worth a wee look now and then.
z1000 Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 This is the fella who drove the manta and who lives at the end of the road in his last car with his wife co piloting before a big off meant its still in bits getting sorted.
z1000 Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 That thing stephen posted looks an absolute weapon [] Really liking this thread
marky.t.s Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 sure is a weapon,St3ph3n didnt Suzuki use to have a Vitara JLX evo. type thing that ran up PikesPeak in the 90's .Or am i dreamin' again???
st3ph3n Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 It's a progression of that car I believe marky. The car is officially the Suzuki Escudo (aka Grand Vitara outside Japan). The car pictured was the one used on the 2006 Pikes Peak and 2006 Race to the sky. From memory in 2006 Pikes Peak was shortened due to weather problems so the car doesn't hold the outright record but at the midway split it was WELL up on the previous record. It holds the race to the sky records. The car is built by Suzuki sport and is driven by a fellow called Nobuhiro Tajima who also happens to be head of Suzuki sport. His nickname is "Monster". He's just a young thing at 56 or so! If any of you have played GT4 then you can unlock that car as the Pikes Peak Escudo.
frank c Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I still love watching the old footage of the Audi 's but there;s something special about the noise that comes from the 6R4..mmm
