~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Folks, How many times have you gone to a meet and got talking to someone you had never met before only to ask them their name and realise that you have chatted before via this forum ? This happened to me at KH when I had met RS Grant but could not recall his name So my idea is similiar to the people pics thread.... Use the piccy from the people pics thread and paste the link into your SIDC signature Use this code ( insering your own link obviously) & simply paste it in :- [urlequalsignhttp://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v242/cgs...rent=coupon.jpg]Link to Cal's Coupon * where I have put equalsign insert "=" it will look like this :- Link to Benny's Coupon and keep your signature neat access your signature via the "control panel" link at the bottom right hand side of this page It then means you dont have to sift through the dross in the people pics thread if you wanna know what someone looks like Meets for newbies will be 10 times easier as they feel they may know some individuals in advance and will be able to approach them.....The alternative is to all walk about Knockhill etc with those SIDC passes on and feel like a bit of a dobber Just an idea - I don't have a clue what 80% of the people in here look like [:$] Cheers Cal LINK TO PEOPLE PICS THREAD LINK TO PHOTOBUCKET FOR UPLOADING YOUR PICCY You can edit your pics in Microsoft Paintbrush, MS Photo Editor, MS Picture It ! or any other Graphics Suite
RA Dunk Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 sounds ok to me, but im sure the anti-siganture group will show up and do the usual complaining it slows the site down, it looks rubbish, it wastes bandwidth, i dont like his dish, blah blah, you know wot i mean lol[]
nkwrx Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 is that really complicated or have I just had an exotic ciggy and too much wine?[8-)]
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 It's not complicated by any means ..........just explaining how to do it in full incase anyone isn't too hot on their PC If the powers that be object to us doing this then it's a sad day considering we pay money for membership One line of text will not kill any servers Cheers CGS
micra_wrc Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 good idea Cal but not sure if everyone wants their pic linked to the forum [*-)] Dunc, if its a clicky link in your signature then I guess its ok - we're not putting actual pictures in the signature, just a link to one
nkwrx Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 just explaining how to do it in full incase anyone isn't too hot on their PC......... Definately me Cal, wine or otherwise

wrxmania Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Good idea Cal - I'll find a piccy tomorrow. The signature/picture removal etc is in the guidelines for two reasons - one is the bandwidtgh useage (which is not huge) - the other is the HUGELY annoying point that EVERY reply with a photo in the signature makes the page AGES longer to scroll through - forums with pictures in the signatures get a bit ridiculous after a while with HUGE signature photo's displaying life stories. Why people rant on about it sometimes as a big deal is beyond me - it's a web forum, we enjoy using it and the guidelines are there for everyone to see. Ranting at the SIDC/moderators/forums/world (delete as appropriate) is a waste of energy and life chances - it does nothing for anyone's day. Brian []
colin_ross Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I'm with Brian. I'd rather not have pics in the sigs but a clicky link to one would be fine.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 Positive responses so far......... Just want to emphasise ( incase someone skim reads the thread) that I am only talking about links to a picture In fact, I have had another brainwave...... I have now edited my original thread to include coupon and car in my piccy Cheers Cal p.s Posted this in General Section to gauge opinion http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=861661

Brian [] An example of Brian is talking about can be found HERE. Go half way down the page - some of their sig pics are huge ! This is what we do not want --- only links ! CGS
wrxmania Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Good example Cal - in most cases the signature is about 10 times the physical size of the post. Let's keep the posts easy to read. []

See my sig for an example ...... If everyone did this then you would have a MUCH better chance of a) knowing more people and building a stronger community. Cal
