broke down...

well 2night my car filled me with yet more joy by breaking down!

dropped the bird off back home, and we sat in car arguing about stuff

for a bit lol. turned engine off  but kept the lights on as i

ussualy do when parked in the middle of the road!

anyway she goes and go to start the car..no joy. starter motor turns

over but clearly didnt have enough power as the engine wouldnt catch

and the lights and cockpit lights went out when the starter motor gave

up after a few tries. was also giving out a very loud high pitched beep

when it wouldnt catch.  after about 15min of this crap she finally

started when i had the lights off.

what would cause this? surely the battery couldnt be flatted in that 10min?

recently the alternator has made a funny buzing noise when the engine

fans come on. well i think its the alternator..coming from that area

anyway.

getting so fed up of my car. is for ever making funny nosies and vibrations etc.

is it time to let her go? ive had it at the garage many times and they find nothign wrong with it.

another thing it does that no-one has put their finger on is if its

been running a while and u turn it off, and turn back on in say

15-20min...the angine has a funny vibration to it that u can feel all

threw the car. as if the engine is rocking side to side or somthing. i

was told this could be timing isues seeing my cambelts where due for a

change, but they have been done and it still does it.

also in high rpm going from 3rd to 4th it wont go in, jst grinds.

there the main issues but loads of smaller ones.

so frustrating  [;)]

Classic flat battery............The beeping sounds like an imobiliser kicking in. Do you have a key fob to press if it has sat for a while?

You will need to find out if the battery is charging propally. A multimeter on the batt should do. 14.5 V is a good figure, 13.5 will do. Any less and something is FUBBAR'ed

Check all the earths in the engine compartment. Especially the main one to the engine. Also having disconnected the battery remove the main positive from the starter motor and clean it. If you have any copper based grease give the connections a light coating as this will reduce the amount of corrosion developing. Once everything is back together take your car for a good run at least 40 minutes. Hope this helps Steve
