deani_age Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Yesterday at the end of a great mapping session with Jolly Green Monster my gearbox went bang at about ***MPH. Initially lost 5th then could only get in to 2nd, which is the gear I had to drive home in. So, I desparately need another RA gearbox (without DCCD). Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Regards Dean
scooby princess Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 I recently had to replace my gearbox as well and i bought a replacement from Grade A breakers They have really good costumer services and are very helpful their number is 01663 744114 hope this helps
ROAR Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Hi dean this guy on ebay says he has many ra parts for sale email him on billybmw66@hotmail.com it may be worth a try [Y]
granby Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Dean wouldn't it be better to get a uprated gear set for yours or a six speed as with the amount of power your car is producing it's gonna break gearbox's all the time
Jolly Green Monster Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Yeah really sorry about that Dean.. she was flipping flying though.. that set up seemed to love timing.. shame the box didn't.. I could understand 3rd.. but 5th! lots of torque! I am about to ring someone who might have one.. It would be worth considering an uprated one as mentioned but obviously won't get the car back up and running for the events you have planned. Simon
tony_cousins Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 He has sorted a new one out and it is not cheap !!!!!!!!!!! But it will be a custom one and well up for 600bhp []
deani_age Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 I have ordered a replacement gearset from Zen Performce. They were very helpful, and taking their advice, I have gone for a modified version of the PPG 5 speed, helical cut synchro engagement box, which I believe is rated at 550 LBS/FT Torque. They expect to have the parts within 1 week, and will do the work straight away, so at the moment I am still hopeful (albeit reservedly) that the car will be ready for the 24th and 25th of November. I suppose I should change the clutch at the same time. Whilst it is disapointing that the box gave up the ghost, as JGM says, "she was flipping flying" even though the MAF sensor was maxing out at only 1.2 Bar Boost. Still, had some good news, my new steering wheel turned up.
Dalthegooner Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Giving up the ghost while mapping must be seriously frustrating. Especially if she was going like stink. Glad you've sorted it already and hope you'll be flying again soon [Y]
vickyk Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Glad you got a new one sorted out Dean. Was a shame our Gearbox depatment at work has just closed down or they could have rebiult your old one Paul
tony_cousins Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 His new gearbox is going to be magic [] should be fun if it holds together long enough to play with it []
deani_age Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 What do you mean "if it holds together long enough" The 1-4 gearset cost £2228 alone. By the time you add a new 5th gear, ancilleries, oil, and labour, I'd be suprised if I get any change from £3k. So the gearbox better hold up. Don't know about the rest of the car though.
tony_cousins Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Lol thats true [] Never mind with the new clutch as well the diffs will be the next weak point lol []
granby Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Quote Lol thats true []Never mind with the new clutch as well the diffs will be the next weak point lol [] And the drive shafts & prop shaft []
markie Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Dean, maybe an idea to put all these things on your xmas wish list[]

deani_age Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 Why don't I add wings and be done with it. It ain't that powerful!
Dalthegooner Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Quote Why don't I add wings and be done with it. It ain't that powerful! I was waiting to see pics with the jet in the back seat [][][]
deani_age Posted November 13, 2006 Author Posted November 13, 2006 My thoughts exactly. If it gets within sight of 400/400 i'd be pleasantly supprised. Although I wouldn't be unhappy with 350/350. If it's back together in time, we'll see how it gets on at Goodwood on the 24th and PE on the 25th. I'll keep those of you that are interested informed, and see you at the next meet. For those of you that are not interested, i'll see you at the next meet.
Dalthegooner Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Definately keep us updated Dean. With a bit of luck I'll see you at PE, work permitting, will be interesting to see what she pulls [Y]
j-k Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I reckon it will be about 360BHP and 345Lb/ft torque??? Any more guesses?? Shall we start a new thread on the subject??

deani_age Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 OK I'll go for 350 / 350, and no, I don't have insider knowledge. Be interested to see what JGM thinks
HOL Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 380/370. Minimum! I just need the 'excuse' when I get overtaken on the straight! []
deani_age Posted November 15, 2006 Author Posted November 15, 2006 And I was thinking of lowering my estimate to 330 / 330. We only managed to get 1 map down @ 1.2 Bar boost, as the MAF sensor maxed out. That was going to be the lowest setting of the 3 boost settings planned. 1.4 Bar and 1.7 Bar were considered for the other settings. Anyway, it's an old (11 years) RA, out of puff over 100 MPH. (note even bigger excuses) I now need to source a 300ZX TT MAF from somewhere.
