Decat Question

Thought I'd ask the Kent crew before going 'strictly technical'....

I am in the process of replacing the airfilter for a green panel one on my MY03 WRX.  I understand that a decat is also the next step.  I currently have a magnex back box with 4" tail at the moment.  What is the best decat option bearing in mind that we use the car everyday for the school run, etc. so don't want to it too loud.  And it also needs to pass the MOT without aggro?????????

Might also save for a remap in the near future as well - if that influences the next step.....

.....any tuning suggestions gratefully received.

Hi there

If you want to decat your car then give Ian at Hayward & Scott a

call, and he will sort you out with a downpipe and centre section and

also an up pipe if you want it [] if you want to stay legal he does a

sports cat which means you will lose about 10 bhp but remain legal and

it will be alittle quieter.  Your back box will be fine and not

too loud as it is [Y]

As for a remap give Jolly Green Monster a call and he will sort you out

but because you have a 03 your cars ecu will learn the mods you have

and cater for them, but a re map will make it all work better []

You will be ok to decat and run it as it is for a while then when you

know what your doing mod wise a remap will be worth while []

A full decat and filter combined with a remap will see you on about 280 bhp if mapped right [H] as for other mods the sky is your limit although the standard wrx engine wont like going much above 350 bhp []

You could try sorting out the handling. Droplinks are a popular, cheap up grade tho haven't had it done myself. One thing I have had done is getting the geometry set up right. Seems a lot of money for no visible difference to the car but handles much much better afterwards, tho might be best to leave it to the end of any suspension mods.

Brakes? Always good to be able to stop[]. Haven't got too much of a problem with the standard setup on mine but then I don't do trackdays and the car isn't massively powerful. Have thought about some stainless brake hoses to sharpen the pedal up a bit tho. If you are going to go for a bigger brake upgrade I've heard good things about the Godspeed stuff, but again haven't tried it myself.

Green panel filter fitted Saturday morning (with hangover).  Much more responsive - will now see about decat.
