mctwistuk Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 What's wrong with wanting a wee bit of noise? The topmount may be a good precautionary measure. i may spend the money on it onstead of a sportcat lol. does anyone know what the fine is etc if you get pulled for emissions?
RA Dunk Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 as far as i know you cant be fined for failing a road side emissions test, i think they give you a week to get it sorted , if you get stopped after that then your for the high jump
philip_wilson Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Quote Turbo choice is your own thing, but personally, i'll keep away from VF turbo's. Don't get me wrong, they are good, but they break up all too easily [] when and why do they break up???
drb5 Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 It's bit of luck at the end of the day, but they are a bit brittle and with high boost, the compressor blades can break off and do some pretty major damage.

[] not so good. I'm not going to be running high boost so will do the job for now. Cheers The Troll []
drb5 Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Obviously some VF turbo's are more robust than others, but i've of some, not being able to take much more than 1.5 bar. As long as you run everything by Andy before mapping, he'll be able to keep you right. [H]

cusco kid Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 hi bud i have a large top mount for sale new never been fitted mutch cheepness geo[H]
mctwistuk Posted November 11, 2006 Author Posted November 11, 2006 hi there. what make is it? PM me and let me know what price your looking for it and any details you have for it. cheers chris
AlanG Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Of the "old school" VF series Dave i.e. VF28/24/23/22, the VF22 was the most fragile and tended to break the compressor blades when boosted repeatedly. The rest were okay as far as i am aware but what put them out of favour was the TD series of turbo's which AndyF campaigned to the masses and are still a top choice many years later. I was party to some testing one late night many years ago with AndyF and John Banks where we did back to back testing on a hybrid VF23 and a TD05 (changing the turbo in a barn next to some coos!!) and the TD05 was the better and cheaper option. This started the death knell for those type of VF series turbos.
jcscoob Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I used to have a VF23 and it pulled like a good un, BUT ....... on the way home from getting the car mapped i kicked a blade from it and didnt even make it home, lol. But my mate hade one on for ages and his car went great, i guess its just your donald at the end of the day []

diffbuster Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Instead of a sports cat which are expensive and unproven over time just get an old centre section made up with an extra cat in for mot easy solution max output minimum input.
AlanG Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I don't have much, if any, experience of the newer versions Dave, though as development progresses over the years i'd imagine they would be much improved over the earlier versions. From what i read, as many of you guys do, they are pretty good units in their own application, though they tend to be fitted on the Newage cars which isn't really a fair comparison over the classics when they're out on the road. Turbo of choice imo for the classics, still appear to favour the TD series.

mctwistuk Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 forgot to add proted headers on to the list. cheers drb5
mctwistuk Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 ooooooooooooooo my Sunday name is getting used now lol
mctwistuk Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 i better add the following to my list now STI bonnet scoop, diffuser and rubber baffle. Just when i thought i had it all covered.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 If you are turning up the boost then I would add a Samco intercooler hose to your list. The standard one is cheap, thin and does not promote the best airflow :- http://www.scoobymods.comforumsshowthread.phpt=5660 Cal
wrxmania Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Good advice Cal. I was doing mine yesterday and away back out to freeze in the garage putting my car back together now [] Several folk on here get the stuff from here - which is VERY cheap: http://www.rallydesign.co.uk Brian []
