professor Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 hi im new to the fourm im looking to further tune my sti 8,what im wondering is how much power can be seen out this engine with further mods my current mods are meercat exauhst,up rated fuel pump, gems ecu, front mount + hard pipes thanks
craig mac Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Speak to Fai17(good lad)[] as he has similar mods, he runs the Gems as well CraiG
professor Posted October 18, 2006 Author Posted October 18, 2006 anybody else on this fourm know about tuning? thanks
st3ph3n Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 What do you want to get out of the car professor? Drag monster, track assault weapon, b road beast? If you've not done anything handling wise then I'd do that next as it appears you have a lot of power as it is. Although the standard turbo will definitely be one of your limiting factors. Over 400bhp can be achieved on an STI block before you have to look at uprating pistons and such like, then the sky and your cheque book is the limit.
z1000 Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Andy F is certainley the man to advise that a turbo change would be needed to get over 340/350 bhp
professor Posted October 19, 2006 Author Posted October 19, 2006 will be using the car for every day driving with a bit of dragging what kind of turbo will support 400 with minimum lag,aps sr40? or are there any other alternitives? thanks
st3ph3n Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 HAve a look here for some ideas professor - http://www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk/16307.html and also here - http://www.owendevelopments.co.uk/
G.T. Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 if you have been to kilbirnie to get your meerkat exhaust fitted im sure wullie would reccomend greersport to you for any advice on tuning up your car . they have done most of the work on peters (fai17) and wilkys car aswell.
fai17 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 What is you car?Type UK or JDM? Spend some money on the chassis fisrt then look for more power.. What turbo are you running with your fmic? I only know a few people running GEMS in this neck of woods so where did you get the ECU from and who maps it? This will be critical as i you will need to remap it again when you going to put new mods on. What colour is your car and can you show us a pic of it? Could meet up with you if you want to find out more.
craig mac Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Prof I am running a Garrett Turbo on my 6 speed Sti9 and at 1.4 bar it dynoed at 382 Bhp/344 ft/lb With the addition of the AVC-R i will see the cars full boost of circa 1.75 to 1.8 Bar, 2nd through to 6th and the dyno figure will with out doubt rise above those noted above[] But its not about dyno, Its about how you enjoy your car on the road, and the occasional track day if you are up for that. Some people throw thousands at there cars and are only dissapointed when they dyno it, Me personally, spent under the price of a Subaru PPP pack, Will not be doing anymore than i have to the 9' Its my everyday car that can make its way round Knockhill in reasonable fashion and at a reasonable rate of knots[] And i am delighted to have the power and the reliability that i have. Good luck in your power quest, and sure there are plenty very gifted technically minded people on here who are always happy to help out. Keep us posted as you progress. CraiG ps With the Garrett i have i am at 1 bar boost at 3200rpm and full boost by 3600[] Not what i would call laggy.
sma01 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 might be worth your while popping in to see Dunc at Hypertech mate, have tried various bits and pieces on my car and he could help you out. ECU wise, would def recommend getting the gems from steve simpson, have never looked back since changing to that management.... scott

ECU wise, would def recommend getting the gems from steve simpson, have never looked back since changing to that management.... scott Well on the Gems part i would disagree, I would stick with the Ecutek and Andy F.and my car is proof of that[] But each to there own. CraiG Edited to Add on standard Uk Internals[]
sma01 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 my car was the complete opposite mate, tried ecutek twice with andy and both times was left very disappointed, second time car was running "dangerously lean" and changing to gems made a big improvement...and i guess if cars are proof then its fair to say mines is too... as you say though, each to their own, as long as what folk go for works then thats the main thing scott
craig mac Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 That is strange Scott? Did Andy explain why this was happening? Fuel pressure or something? First time i have heard of that. What motor you running then? And i agree as long as its safe and the man behind the wheel is smilin [] Thats all that matters CraiG
andrew_forrest Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Thats news to me Scott ? When you melted your exhaust headers (due to high EGT one assumes) and had your engine problems you were on the GEMS ECU or did you forget that ? Andy

fai17 Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 If say that i never bought the GEMS ecu i would defo be going to AndyF...no doubt about it... But because i have bought the GEMS i will just hold on with it...for the now.
rapidcossie Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 what are the main differences between a standard STI8 and a WR1 model? the WR1 is a much quicker car on the road. have seen a standard WR1 against stis that claim close 400 bhp and the WR1 held its own no probs
craig mac Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Torque m8 all about the torque Get a WR1 up against me or Fai 17 and we will sort it out [] Knockill or Crail or "Private Road" LOL CraiG
fai17 Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Quote The difference i think is a remapped ecu from prodrive..the turbo is the same IHI VF35.. what are the main differences between a standard STI8 and a WR1 model? the WR1 is a much quicker car on the road. have seen a standard WR1 against stis that claim close 400 bhp and the WR1 held its own no probs There is a standard looking WR1 from Kirkintilloch with a 2.5l engine which Greersport have put in and was mapped by god himself. Was it that one?Think it has a mud flap missing the last time i saw it and the wheels was all scratched/kerbed..
rapidcossie Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 the WR1 in question is owned by my friend and it is 100% standard althougth he and gumball were certainly "going" for it that nite... ws amazing to watch from the P1 i was following in
st3ph3n Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Tracks are wonderful places yes? [] WR1 is just an STI with prodrive fettling - springs, PPP - but a better PPP than normal, special paint, wheels, WRX like fog lights and a tax disc holder.
frank c Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 So it's not really just like an STi then...lol Either way, their still too heavy, C'mon the Classics )

craig mac Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Tell him to come to Knockhill on the 11th We will see how his WR1 Compares to certain STi's round there[] CraiG PS Frank, note the signiture below[][]
