scoobyiain Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 As above, have spotted it in this weeks auto trader. V reg, 53,000 miles, world rallye blue, adjustable centre diff, i/c water spray, roof vent, over 300bhp £8000. As you all know i'm a virgin when it comes to subaru's so i'm asking if this would be a fair price for this kind of car and what exactly does type ra mean anyway? Would it be more sensible to just get a wrx for my first subaru or go the whole way? Thanx Iain
bigal024 Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Iain, Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the RA is a Special Edition Japanese Import, which is basically a lighweight, Rally Edition of an STi.
the squiggle Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Without to much one finger typing RA is the homologation version of the Impreza, the bits used on a STI RA were allowed in Grp N rallying. Things like DCCD, roof vent and fifth injector on some models gave the WRX an excellent starting point for all classes of rallying RA stands for Rally Altered STI RA comes with all the toys as std, DCCD, plated rear diff, some had quick rack steering, lightened body panels, roof vent but few creature comforts as they add weight that was not needed in competition The one you have spotted sounds like a late V Limited with its World Rally Blue colour scheme, if it is a V Limited then it will have a number plaque in front of the gear stick I would go for the best when buying an Impreza and a late classic STI RA is up there with the best
scoobyiain Posted October 13, 2006 Author Posted October 13, 2006 I have had a look on www.fgperformance.co.uk and there is a few type ra's on there but are so much cheaper than the one in autotrader should i stay well clear of this place? anybody know what kind of rep they have? Thanx Iain
micra_wrc Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 £8,000 sounds like a bargain for the car you spotted in the trader, given its age and its mileage. the RA's hold their value and i'd be suspicious of ones that are cheap - high chance of it dying on you if its too good to be true
craigwrx Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Take somebody with you mate, who has good knowledge, especially when buying a classics with little knowledge, you could get stung really badly ...well worth paying an acquaintance a few quid to come along, may well save you a fortune .. Craig
scoobyiain Posted October 14, 2006 Author Posted October 14, 2006 What about £10,000 for a 1997 P1 with 38,000 on the clock? cheap or fair?
Andy UK300 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 way to cheap. p1 are prone to going kaboom aswell
