craig mac Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Lads and lasses What do you think to this idea that Willie has offered and i quote "Why not organise a Subaru day and we could run classes for different areas or models. We could do this on the 5th November on a non mag day ?" What sort of interest is there in this? Our own Scottish Scoobies day at Crail? We could invite up our SIDC folks from South of the border too? Make a right day of it, and give tham all a right shock, when they see how sorted our scoobs are up here, in as they would say "Jockland" We could make it a regular national get together, all of the SIDC, Make it a big one? It would IMHO be a great feature in True Grip? We could ask Town and County to sponser/promote and attend, and any other dealers and modifiers, ie Greersport, AWD, open to all? I know its mabe a little late and short notice now for this year, but we could lay the foundation stone and start planning a national SIDC @ Crail Raceway, where we can all show off our scottish tools[] And again IMHO It would be great running against scoobies all the time instead of corsas, novas, etc etc, No MASSIVE Q's either Let me know what you think folks, i would be willing to run with it if we can generate enuff interest. We could use it as a Fund Raiser? Food for thought, mull it over and let me know if i should bother. CraiG
st3ph3n Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 We were mulling over a similar idea over grub at Peter's a few weeks ago as an idea for next year. Trying to get some of the big names to come up if organised far enough in advance. So yes, great idea to have an SIDC day at Crail, but quite short notice and a dodgy time of year to get the sort of numbers that might be required for it. What sort of numbers are they anyway? So yes I'll come, but only for the spectating as I've given up on the 1/4 mile action with my chocolate clutch.
paddy247 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Fantastic idea, this would be great to see as many scoobys from the sidc in one place at the same time, with maximun levels of entry for the 1/4 mile shoot out, Lots of potential here for a great day out for, SIDC, motorsport and tuning companys, and last but not least charity. But rather then be a quick christmas pocket liner for Crail raceway and co, It would probaly nead a bit more time to organize to make sure every one beniefits, charitys, sidc, ect only my thoughts! How about for the opening of racing for next season?
craigwrx Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Nice idea, but i can not see anybody attending from "south of the border" obviously depends on how far south, but lets take the "Midlands" central south ...Crail would be around a seven hour trip, then spend the day at Crail and travel another seven hours plus to get home, just a wee bit to much, one would also need to allow for 3 tanks of fuel .. Craig
kebab nemesis Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I dint know what Crail Raceways policy is regarding camping on the airfield is but I would have thought that if it were allowed this could prove to be mega event on the calendar, it would surely encourage members from down south to attend. BBQ`s and ale?
craigwrx Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Spending the night in Scotland would put a different light on things of course ...maybe a group of us could offer a bed for the night ?? Craig PS ..this thread would be better in the general ? ...see what sort of response you get ??
RA Dunk Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 yaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy, i should be home for this, getting remapped from Andy with all my new toys on the 3rd as well [H], but doubt my clutch or gearbox could handle the strip without something going BANG! []
fai17 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 A bit short notice but what a great idea...I'll be up for some of that.. Me and mac up side by side on the line....what a thought eh!!
zeolite Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 The 4th November is the "Crail Stages rally" and Snday morning will be when they will be collecting the bales and dismantling the stages. Don't think camping will be an option as the place is mobbed until after dark on the Saturday and you won't be allowed onto the airfield until the rally is finished.
craig mac Posted October 14, 2006 Author Posted October 14, 2006 Good Feedback till now folks. I agree that its too short notice for this year and i am considering trying to arrange it for next year. Open to dates ideas etc CraiG
stephen_paris Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 love the idea will keep watchin 2 c what happens, sort the master race out........ha ha[]
st3ph3n Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Craig, I'll give you a brain dump of what I'd thought about and what was discussed at Peter's place. 1) Try and get some of the big names of drag racing to come from Scotland or from down south. So get some dates that doesn't clash with them doing events down south. Names mentioned - Andy F, Keith Cowie etc. 2) Get a mag or two involved. 3) Invite some of the other scottish clubs along to bring their best cars and have a wee bit of friendly competition 4) Stands etc. from tuners, dealers, mags etc. etc. Mag days at crail can be very busy, so try and run it to our rules etc. If I think of more I will post. It's a great idea and we should try and get a good relationship with Crail.
craig mac Posted October 14, 2006 Author Posted October 14, 2006 Stephen Great ideas and also along the same lines as i am thinking however.Involve Mags? That would then turn it in to a Mag day? That's why i thought of True Grip coverage only. I would imagine Andy and Chris, If available would be more than willing/Happy to pop along. The other clubs i was thinking of were the RS Owners club, Capri Owners, along those line. Try and limit the amount of cars on the strip. Etc Still great ideas and lots to think about CraiG
st3ph3n Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 The mag days are run to crail/mag rules as far as I know. Which is 60000000 corsas and saxos with 1/2 ton of subs and neons turning up to rag the crap out of the 1 litres. If this was run to Imprezas only + invited cars then it wouldn't be a 30 minute wait to get a run. True Grip's all well and good, but getting the other jap mags or decent tuning mags (not F+M, Max Nonsense etc.) in might help get stands from companies in. MLR, Type R Scotland, Scottish Jap Club etc. too.
