TheCrow Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I bought a very nice magnex 6x4 exhaust from Stripe (memeber here), going to fit it 2moro. So just after any advice b4 i set about it. Will i need a new gasket? if so where from and how much should i exspect to pay? Is it just the hangers and the 2 bolts? (this is just a cat-back) Any other help, tips, advice would be great Thanks
fai17 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Depends on what nick your gaskets are in and you can get them from the Dealer if you need one. How much?...I don't know. Pretty straight forward job should take you about 1/2 hour is you get the bolts loose easily.
ally-b Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Spray a bit of WD40 on the 2bolts then on the rubber hangers , undo the bolts , by which time the rubber hangers should be slippy , push them out . And in classic Haynes manual style 're-assembly is reverse of the dismantling procedure' [] A wee bit of exhaust paste will prevent it blowing - jobs a good-un . . . . "bit-'o-bun" If you don't have ramps , back onto the kerb [] Should take less time than it took for me to type this [] HTH Al.
scoobaroo Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Wee tip [] Use high temp. mastic on the exhaust gaskets, it seals the joint and is flexible. Marty.
TheCrow Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 Sounds good apart from you only find out about your gasket when u take the back-box off :S ill try giving it a few hrs to soak in wd40 b4 i start snapping bolts! Not sure what high temp mastic is but i sure i will find out at local parts shop. - is that insted of gasket or aswell as?
scoobaroo Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Use the mastic and the gasket, should be able to get some at most motor factors, was told of this by some guys that race high powered track cars putting out about 550bhp so should be fine for us [] Marty.
st3ph3n Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Or go to Kwik fit, give them £15 and let them do it for you?
thefastone Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Stephen! Please tell me your wern't serious about the qwik-fit thing.... [] I dont even trust them with me tyres, never mind letting them anywhere near my exhaust.... That said I did have some help to cut the bolts out of my backbox like.... [] (Kev @ T&C - many thanks [])
st3ph3n Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Deadly serious mate. I got my last tyres from them, and got them to install the 3rd Cat Delete and unresonated centre of my exhuast. It does help that the manager of the local branch is our very own Vicki's other half of course. Price and service couldn't be beat.
thefastone Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Ah well when you put it that way then fair one, its a known factor, But I dont know the monkeys up here and dont trust them... [:S]
TheCrow Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 i dont trust them but i think ill need to, tried to get the bolts out, but they have managed to weld themslef togither, and i dont have a burner to heat them up. May pop in to quick fit for cash in hand if they can get the bolts off. :'( i want my exhaust on!!
TheCrow Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 Just to let all you avid watchers of this thread out there that i took it to quick fit, they were really good about it, very friendly. They had to heat the bolts up till they could be snaped with a hammer then they poped the ends out, gave me a new gasket and sealent,(and bolts obv) up with the new exhaust and all was good. Gave them £20 for there good work (they left it full up to me how much i wanted to pay - how nice of them) Now it sounds great [] and once i get the decat center-pipe should be even better! +1 for Quick-Fit (didnt think i would ever say that)
