Your all reasonably local to me, and i see you've got your names on the braided hose group buy - i'm interested in this but I was wondering who will fit these for you (or are you doing them yourselves) and how much it would cost?

Although the car is going into Ian Grieve's next Wednesday for a 40K service, and that includes changing the brake fluid apparently... so i MAY just get them to do it while it's in.

B4 I phone in my order tomorrow how much DOT5.1 fluid will I need for the system? They are selling it in 500ml bottles.

Is 5.1 REALLY neccessary for me? I don't put my car on the track, and rarely hammer it on the road - just the occasional run organised by members on here (and i'm always in the 'slow' group)

Andy if you are going to the expense of goodridge hoses, then why try to save a penny on the fluid, imo the two go together ...

Even at legal speed limits, (road use) your stopping power could make a crucial difference [y]

Yea, but since i'm no expert on the differences between Dot 4, Dot 5.1 etc - my knowledge so far tells me the only difference is the boiling point is higher? So if i'm not cooking the brakes on track or on the road it won't matter to me?

Yes you do have a point Andy, speaking for myself, if am fitting goodridge hoses and ferodo pads, (can not afford a new brake kit)  then i also want the best brake fluid money can buy Dot 5.1 ...

DOT 5.1 is clearly better, but its also 3-5 times as much to buy, so unless you are very "spirited" with the brakes, DOT 3/4 blend should be very sufficient and you may as well save your money.

2 bottles I used in mine Gus.  The price was only a couple of quid a bottle so wortwhile.  It was MOTUL I got from Alyn the last time.

Total system volume is well under a Litre a Gus, so even draining the master cylinder, reservoir and lines, 1ltr will be plenty [y]

Remember that 5.1 is more hyrgroscopic ( absorbs more moisture) than 4.1 so will need changed more regularly (once a year)!
