lescazscoob Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 CAN I FIT AN STI VERSION 4 red top inlet manifold to my 93 wrx and if i can what difference would it make?
col666 Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Another manifold question! Are the red top manifolds any different to normal ones? apart from the colour!
WUZ Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Right....YES, you can fit the V3/4 Inlet manifold to your car and it will mate up to your heads no problems. It will allow you to run Front entry Turbos like the V3- cars. Removing the 90-degree part on the turbo inlet will allow more power to be available from the turbo. Also allows you to fit a V3/4 TMIC - MUCH BETTER COOLING of Inlet Charge Temp! Anoter "theory" on Red-top's,they are exactly the same as normal WRX Inlets. The V2 Sti in limited numbers did get a ported and polished Inlet but these are like gold dust! Russell

Carl Davey Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Brian, the V1 was the only STi which didn't come with a red-top manifold. Grant, have you checked to see if yours/Imys are ported/polished? Would be interested in pics if they were. I've seen 15-20 manifolds from various classic Imprezas and each casting has been near identical be it UK, WRX or STi. I believe there is some truth in what Russell says but until i've seen one it remains a rumour (at best) for me.
wrxmania Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Brian, the V1 was the only STi which didn't come with a red-top manifold. Yeah - I was thinking of the porting and polishing though Carl as STI had built this engine - with all the stuff they done, it seems likely. []
Carl Davey Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 I'll bet you £10 it isn't. [] (i'd love to be proven wrong. [])
wrxmania Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 I have no idea - but if it ever comes off and I find out it is - that's 5 pints you owe me []
wilky Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 The V1 and few V2 stis that were hand built until production moved back to the FHI factory were supposed to be blueprinted, but having worked on a few of these cars the port matching that was supposed to have happened was merely a token effort, I could see it had been done but it was a very poor effort. The right angle bend on a TD05 makes not one ounce of difference to the power, they were converted to front entry simply so that later cars could be fitted with them. Callum W
