bigdavie Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 got an intermittent light ticking from what sounds to be the cylinder nearest the turbo (no 1 ?) its only happened twice first time it went away when i revved it now its staying put ! the car has only done 68k always run on shells finest the car is around 1k overdue an oil service will do this tomorrow could it possibly be a sticky valve ?? if so is an engine flush advisable on these engines ?? any input greatfully received davie
duncan_stephen Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 It's a bit difficult to try and diagnose without actually hearing it Dave. Could be tappets. Common enough. Once the engine has been running for a while, does it go away?
duncan_stephen Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Also, on the sticky valve - if its been run on optimax and has been opened up from time to time it shouldn't suffer from sticky valves.
bigdavie Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 well i'll let you know how she sounds after the service the day dunc !! cheers for the reply !!
fai17 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Take it to Greers Davie...they've helped you out before... Too techincal for me so i can't answer your query[]
TheTerminator Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Cylinder nearest your turbo will be the troubled number 3, these fail mainly due to the heat generated from the turbo... I would get it professionally check davie, greers or Duncan @Hypertech should help you out mate.
bigdavie Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 cheers guys !! turned out it was only a dodgy ht lead !!!! thought i was lookin at a rebuild there !! pheww ! once again cheers !
paul_honthy Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Davie from what i've been told the classics suffer from loud tappets after about 60K.They aint self adjusting so would need some one like Greers to do them (im waiting to get a price of Bill to get mine set).
