A wee idea

"...... St3ph3n, did i mention they hurt you and kill your car??"

yeah, but your car hurts them too if you're running with a decat

edit to add that i meant hurting the trees, not the goats lol

which can only be a good thing if you want warm summers and great weather [:)]

true

but this is Scotland - we're meant to have wet and gloomy weather.

if you want warm summers and great weather then go abroad

i reckon high performance cars will be targeted in the near future because they are not eco friendly  - you remember the fuss over Jeremy Clarkson driving a 4x4 up a mountain..... the environmentalists lynched him

we could all dress up as captain fudtsastic and jump out of planes throwing seed all over the place and grow the trees, set up a peace camp and drink shandy until the wee hours of the morning before having a shower together and driving home in our solar powered squatmobiles.

I think its a good idea if its an idea for the right reasons and is something you have aburning desire to do

otherwise youll all just burn loads of O2 layer up driving about getting to your tree meets and locations and effectively do more harm to teh environment that good.

Stay in, dont plant seeds and save the environment by using less fuel. (if you like that idea)

The intention was not for all of us to drive somewhere to do the planting, but just to donate the cash to an existing fund to make particular club events "carbon neutral".

Do we do as much harm as Mummy from Corstorphine doing the school run

twice a day, every day in her X5 because precious Tarquin and Rupert

are too pussy to walk half a mile? I doubt it. Compred to tw@ts like

that who use high-emission vehicles to do short runs about town and

spend half their time in queues or jams, I'd reckon our contribution is

negligible.

Andy, the Impreza is classed as high emissions. It is in the highest or second highest tax band. The 2.5 was introduced as a way of getting the same (or slightly more) power for less emissions to meet targets as the 2.0 was struggling unless I am sorely mistaken.

I don't really care less what you all do with your cars during the week, I was just thinking we can make the CLUB EVENTS "carbon neutral". It looks good for the club, could gain us some publicity which in turn could boost member numbers, which could help us get better deals or give us more power to continue the excellent charity work we are already doing.

Ach, I'm only taking the p***. I've actually suggested the very same

idea amongst the Trials riders on my own forums, but for different

reasons. They're losing long-established practice grounds due to

complaints from nearby residents. Not over emmissions, but over noise.

I suggested planting of trees and hedging around those practice

grounds. Something that's going to be looked on favourably by the local

authorities and tree-huggers, but more importantly would also help to

muffle noise. I can see where you're coming from, albeit from a

different approach.

Regarding this issue of planting trees and the like; to do our bit for global warming is perhaps nothing more than the product of media/scientific hype. One has to realise that there are many many studies that contradict the global warming issue, claiming that it is utter nonsense. Stephen, if you wnat to do all this research, then why not look at the other side of the coin as well, so that we can have a balanced view. Global warming is perhaps one of those things that is foisted upon us as true and factual when it may well not be (for alterier motives such as research budgets). Look here for starters:  Don't follow the mass media hype on this, as Einstein said, "The important thing is to not stop questioning." While you're at it, have a look at the lie that is Evolution another load of utter crap and for that matter, have a look at what really causes AIDS, HIV? I think not! Keep asking questions!

It's not that I'm against good causes, indeed I am not. Starving and suffering children is a real as the nose on our faces, we don't need science or the media to tell us this. So, we want to pursue good causes, there is no question of that, but let's place our money in causes that are factual and deserving of our hard earned cash.

Stephen, I think it is a lovely idea.

I like to do my bit for the environment, recycling at home, use bottle banks, buying organic produce from farm shops, using organic cosmetics/lotions/hair products/alluminium free deoderant etc.

At my new house there is a compost bin and lovely trees all round the garden and I ain't cutting them down for no moany neighbours.  I love silver birch trees best.

I will help you out with things if you need it [:)]

I do like Craig's idea of getting a greenhouse and growing weed tho [:$]

It is a natural product [:)]

I do like Craig's idea of getting a JCB and knocking down all the trees to make canoes so we can sail down the clyde eating bananas though [:$]

Gumballios idea of saving an ewok sounds good too. I used to work as one in the 80's and it was incredible. Hanger 13 will never be open again but i'll never forget the days when we went down there and burnt trees mashed on the way home [:)]

I can just see the publicity,

SIDC Member  "Yes, well we are doing this tree humping thingy cos alot of us drive de-catted cars which is causing pollution blah blah blah blah snore"

Mr Media Person " ooohhh, so alot of you are infact breaking the law and felt guilty about it, i do not think this token effort really cuts the mustard"

Mr Copper (Upon getting wind of said tree hugging actions)  "Ho ho ho.........wait til i get on the roads, every scooby is gonna get pulled"

Also, why do you think SIDC needs more power to do charity work??  From what i have seen the fundraising abilities speak for themselves.

Boost Member numbers?.........what are the flyers/ club stand at events for??

Better deals?.........do we not get damn good deals as it is, i somehow do not think that the deals we already get were due to the fund raising the club does but more to do with the hard work of individuals who take time to negotiate/ talk with establishments  i.e  Aberdeen area with T+C and all the work Phil does.

P.S -  I would rather use that 1 or 5 quid for the life giving V-Power.

Agreed. Furthermore with regards to boosting number with the "hug-a-tree" campain; this is not only silly but contradictory. Our numbers are attracted by owning and driving gas-guzzling road monsters - caring about trees (though i have nothing againt them) and promoting these "save the world" ideas will actually drive potential members away. We are at opposite ends of the scale and the two shall never meet! Its like having paedo-day at Disney! That's just not going to fly I'm afraid!
