RS Grant Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Ok, need brakes before the run on 17th and I've got the chance at some STi Brembo's from a MY03 STi Spec-C for my classic, UK MY99 Turbo running on 17" Speedline GT1 wheels. Are they a straight bolt-on job.. or are special brackets/clips etc needed?! Cheers, Grant
terzo neil Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 you should have 4 pots already being a 99 car
RS Grant Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Yep sure do, dont find them all that inspiring to be fair... as the discs and pads are coming to the end of their life, I am looking at about the same amount for new discs and pads for original set-up as I am for a low-mileage Brembo set-up. Cheers, Grant
terzo neil Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 atleast you have 4 pots on yours i have the standard 2 pots on the front as subaru supplied
higgy Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 grant do you have the discs aswell? the front should be a direct replacement and i think you need a brecket to fit them to the rear. Higgy
higgy Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 the other question is will your wheels fit over the brakes??? Higgy
RS Grant Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Yea, got the discs & pads as well as the calipers... need to know these will be fine before I can confirm that I'll take them. I'm taking a gamble that they'll fit under the 17" Speedlines, if they dont fit, I'll be out of the run!! [] I had 2-pots on my old MY98 wagon, they are VERY bad.. absolute hope&pray jobbies!! [] Cheers, Grant
RS Grant Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 This is just a Front conversion only... Cheers, Grant
RA Dunk Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 run!! []I had 2-pots on my old MY98 wagon, they are VERY bad.. absolute hope&pray jobbies!! [] Cheers, Grant aye, i know all about them [] just WTF were subaru thinking when they decided to put them things on ill knever know [:S], thats the only bad thing i dont like about the car TBH
wrxmania Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I don't find much difference between them and the 4 pots I had on my last car - the previous 4 pots had Goodridge lines, Motul 5.1 flui and Pagid RS 4.2.1 pads so were not standard. This car has no ABS which probably helps and also is lighter - and it has Brembo discs and Mintex pads, without Goodridge lines and Fluid upgrade. Also, they seem to fade less than my 4 pots did, even after the pad upgrade. Brian []
drb5 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 You'll need wheel spacers and longer studs for your locking nuts Grant. You may need longer studs for the other wheel nuts too, if you don't have the proper Speedline nuts.
RS Grant Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Noooooooooo....... Any ideas where I can source longer parts, never needed to look before?! [] I have only got standard Scoob nuts and AFAIK standard Scoob locking nuts.. [] Cheers, Grant
drb5 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I'd have thought you'd have the proper Speedline nuts mate, as the holes that the wheel sits over, are actually wider than they need be and thus use a nut with a shoulder on it. Check that first as it's a big job to replace ALL the studs, where as i used just one in each hub for the locking nuts.
WUZ Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I think that the offset on the GT1's in 17" MIGHT be a little tight. BUT If you go to crail tomorrow and ask one of the STI8 mob that are bound to be there...................maybe you can try and fit one of your wheels onto the front of their car (5 minute job, I am sure someone will allow you to do it!), you'll soon find out if they will fit! Russell
col666 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Grant, you can swap a wheel with me if you want, I also want to try one of pug pauls rims to see if they fit over the calipers.
RS Grant Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Col, that would be brilliant mate... Maybe we can find a nice quiet corner of Sainsburys and make merry with the tyre lever and trolley jack. I bought the wheels 2nd hand, didnt realise they needed "special" bolts for them.. was never informed of that as I assume its pretty expensive to get some sent out.. now I've had them refurb'd in the colour I'm after I will be VERY pi$$ed off if I cant bl00dy use them on my car!! [:@] Cheers, Grant
WUZ Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Grant - as with other recent posts of mine..............I must apologise for butting in with helpful advice. I'll edit the post if you like or you can tell me to butt out... OH, I'M SORRY! I forgot your not an "Aberdeen tuner" so you'll not do that[:$] Sorry, couldn't resist! RUssell
RS Grant Posted September 10, 2006 Author Posted September 10, 2006 Haha, no no... You keep that helpful advice where it is mate... I neither feel threatened nor bitter about you helping me out, could be something to do with me not being 'one of them' I suppose!! [][] Cheers, Grant
