kloon Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Got my renewal in from Admiral today, which came in at a hefty £699. (MY00 UK Turbo, Age 36, 3 years no claims, 3pts, just a couple of minor mods). Going to phone around tomorrow starting with Gary Moulsen at Keith Michaels, anyone got any other recommendations while i'm at ? Got a quote off confused.com from AXA of £472 but that was with no mods. Also gotta be able to pay by direct debit, am skinto and my cc is almost at it's limit [:$]

euan_r Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 confused is just price comparison site. ie the deals dont really exist tried phoning up for my cheapest quote and was told they wanted 60 or something more notes. I am with elephant and are about the cheapest. could have been cheaper slightly somewhere else but bought the car mid policy and they would have charged for ending. Theres an insurance tread somewhere on here.
andy Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 You could try A-Plan. I was insured with Norwich Onion through them, but then tried Gary. He beat A-Plan by £135 and I'm still with Norwich Onion. When I phoned A-Plan to say I wouldn't be renewing, they asked what price I'd been given to see if they could match/beat it and admitted it was a bloody good price.
david_taylor Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 If you have a tracker I got really good quotes from Elephant and privledge. I am with Barclays. MY00 Classic Turbo, SS exhaust 28 and 5 years no claims for £490. Might be worth trying them.
gunther Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 With A-Plan you need to pay up front I think
Guest greegsy Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I had to search for insurance a few months back and got lots of quotes and found keith michaels to be the most competitive. Also gary knows what you are talking about when you mention mods etc Greegsy
andy Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 With A-Plan you need to pay up front I think I didn't. I think it's down to the terms with whoever they're using. As Norwich Onion were fine with monthly payments, I was okay. Some companies might not be hence payment up front.
david_taylor Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I know its down to finance's available, but I always pay up front. If you pay monthly you normally pay well over 10% apr. Hence why they appear cheaper compared to paying up front. You very often end up paying more!
thefastone Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Well I just bought My insurance with A-plan Paid Up front, Got a good Quote, (Better than your renual, no Points, But a *50 day ban*, no mods) and I had the option of Pay at once, Pay in 4 instalments direct to A-plan, or pay in 9 installments to a finace company, although if you do the 9 installmnets, then you have to pay 20% plus interest... and Gary couldn't touch thier quote. and I tried Privilidge but for the model of tracker that ive got They wont insure for theft...

It annoys me this tracker insistance thing the big companys use. Lets face it, if you have a thatcham cat 1 alarm and immobiler, unless they are really good thieves the only way they will steal the car is with your keys! If the car is stolen and not reported for hours, very ofter that all these guys need to strip the thing down to a shell before the cops find it. My mate in work had his keys stolen for his evo8 when they broke into the house in the middle of the night. The keys were in his livingroom table, and they took them as he slept...scary! Insurance paid out right enough!

scooby222 Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 yep another vote for aplan, they were almost half the price that gary moulson quoted me, and understood about mods and ppp. charming young lass i spoke to, think her name was claire? seemed to really know what she was talking about. Dale, you trying for a surprise unveiling of a new beast on the 20th?
