Help Please - Steering Rack Questions

Recommended Posts

I'm getting so confused! Everything I read says something different.

So I'll start from the beginning and hopefully someone can just tell me what I need to know!

I have a 1997 WRX STi TypeR (R reg)

(oh, and does that mean its a STi IV or V???)

I'm trying to figure out what steering rack I need for the car (or have on the car at the moment)....if I need a quick/short rack

Some posts say that all TypeR's have a quick rack as standard.....others say only the V limited do.

AWD have said that I have a standard rack but a "STI QUICK STEER SYSTEM"....is this the same thing?

Just got Adam at home to turn the wheel lock to lock....and it turns 2 and 3/4 times...this may be helpful if I knew what a standard rack should turn! to me that would suggest a standard rack though (but I'm just guessing)

I've also spoken to Subaru who have said that the rack for my car is the same as the P1...although I've read posts stating otherwise....is this because it is actually the same rack but without this STi quick steer system?

If it is the same rack....can the steer system be taken off one and put on another?

Essay now over......please someone explain to me in dummy terms wtf this is all about!!!

Thank you [:^)]

First off, your car is an STI 4.

The quick rack was standard on some models but not the type r however it was an option so you could have either. Not sure how many turns they are lock to lock but 2 3/4 sounds like a normal one.
