z1000 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Just fitted my latest purchase, a 70mm APS induction kit and was also going to fit the APS up pipe i got and a 3" inch decat down pipe to replace my prodrive sports cat leaving me totally cat less. So i'm wondering can i do this without causing harm without a remap ? as i was gonna wait until i have enough for a 20g turbo first before booking in with andy forrest. Cars a 03 STI PPP with WR1 map just now. Steve
jcscoob Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Yeah i would go fo it ......... the day before remap !!! []
gus the bus Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Steve, Personally speaking I think it would make sense to remap it now with all that fitted. Better that than pop goes the weezel. IMHO. Gus[] PS just got a text back from Paul £175 for your downpipe delivered inc new gaskets. Gus
z1000 Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 Cheers gus is it the same as the ones on ebay ? if so could you get me a price for this system plz ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A%3AIT&rd=1 As mr forrest recommended a 3" system.
gus the bus Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Yes, they will do a full 3" decat system similar to that one. I've sent Paul a text but he will be in his pit now. So, I'll let you know when he gets back to me. Gus[]
fai17 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Yes you will need a remap with the stuff that you are going to put on.Or why don't you buy all the stuff that you need and then fit it the week before the remap. Ask yourself this question....why are these stuff so cheap on Ebay....[*-)] Better to spend your hard earn cash wisely[]
z1000 Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 Problem is i can't afford a new turbo, exhaust and remap all together. Still under warranty til november so don't think i'll do much before then anyway but don't know if i could resist all those goodies lying in the shed especially with knockhill again in october. As for ebay i've had some good bargains but am reluctant to buy unbranded stuff and would rather go through someone like gus who's actually seen the bits.
craig mac Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 DO NOT BUY THAT ONE FROM EBAY My mate got one for his Bug Eye and it was a nightmare to fit.........mounts in the wrong place etc And it sits cr4p and is a mare of a thing IMHO ps yes i would get it mapped too Craig
z1000 Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 I bought a scorpion one for a bmw once from ebay and it was a pain so i can quite believe that a cheapy would be more hassle than its worth. Other problem is i don't want to go much louder as the old car was a nightmare on long drives and for setting of car alarms so i was thinking the decat downpipe and keeping my prodrive middle and back would be more bearable even if it is a bit restrictive. Wife thinks i'm mad wanting more power but i just blame all you lot for having faster cars, after all your only hear once :-)
fai17 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Go for a 3" system if you are going to change at all[]
z1000 Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 I only saw the thread for your old system after it was sold, typical ! Noticed at knockhill you had a cover on your slam panel/radiator, can i ask where you got it ? as mine looks shabby now the intake scoop has gone.
dave_morgan Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I'd talk to Andy and see what he thinks. Personally I'd probably get it mapped now, and then remapped when you've got all your bits. If it's the ecutek map your going for, you pay for the licence and map first time, and then it's just andy's time/experience you're paying for from then on. ie it's cheaper once you've had it done once. HTH Dave
z1000 Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 It seems to be that its all or nothing but i suppose new exhaust + remap would take me to 340bhp (limited by turbo according to andy) which would be a bit better until i can justify a new turbo + another map. So many decisions and will it ever be enough power ????????
sma01 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 peters advice is good mate, better to spend the cash wisely and buy the right parts, best way to do it IMHO...... as for the radiator cooling plate, they are readily available, got an anodised blue cusco one on my car from hypertech, give dunc a call on 01324 812212 and he'll be able to sort you out... as for ecu, have you considered going for gems?felt it made a massive difference to my car for the better once it went to steve simpson scott
craig mac Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 So many decisions and will it ever be enough power ???????? NO is the simple answer, am already buying up bits for my next phase[] Craig
gus the bus Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Steve, Just spoke to Paul and he doesnt currently have any 3" systems made up[]. He wont be manufacturing another system for a month or so as the demand for other stainless steel parts is so high just now that he is concentrating his and Scotts efforts on building them. Sorry! Gus He has the 3-2.5"downpipe in stock if that is still of interest?
craig mac Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I will have a 3 to 2.5 downpipe available soon too, H&S and its all pre heat wrapped[] Its not even 2 months old Craig
ANDYJDMSTI Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 as for ecu, have you considered going for gems?felt it made a massive difference to my car for the better once it went to steve simpson scott My arguement against that route would be that you could go to Andy get a map and then go back for about 3 or 4 further remaps for the price of gems. Good system primarily designed for rally cars but if money is the deciding factor then i would stick with Ecutek. []

[] Ecutek it is then as i'm only after a bit extra grunt and at least if i get an exhaust and map just now i can go back to andy again once i get a turbo. Gus, don't worry about it mate as i'll probably wait til the warrantys up and its been serviced in october/november nefore i do anything serious unless any bargains come my way.
sma01 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Andy, fair point indeed, but i personally did not rate the ecutek map, twice it was tried and twice it did not work and my car was left not running well, soon as i had the gems fitted it made a vast improvement for the better. Others have had the ecutek map on the same style of car(sti8) and have had good success so good luck za , hope whichever way you choose works for you mate scott
