Gumball Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 How does that work? They hold it inside your car and see what reading they get. then i would imagine they take into account the surrounding light and conditions in relation to the time of the day do they? i dont really think if that went to court they would get a prosecution. My opinion would be of the "find out more about this procedure and go to court rather than accept 3 point rammed into you" Theyre also wanting to stick a black box on your car to track how many miles you travel per day and charge you X x .10p or whatever. Theyre also going to try and reduce the speed limit in built up areas to 20. FFS. i know that they wont do both and they will hit us with the "well, we'll give motorists a break and only shaft them over such and such" but its still becoming a joke. You spend half your life not concentrating properly incase you miss a gatso, camera van etc etc. Thats the only one constant in my life after eating, drinking water and sleeping. cameras. Rant over Gumball (retired speed freak/forced to sell my machine and drive diesels by the government)
rabskyline Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 two of my best mates are cops and they hate this crap. they get agendas for areas and targets for this and that. you will probably find if you get a tug about it , its because the individual was battered at high school or bullied as a child and have a chip on their shoulder. most of the cops i know would ignore these insignificant orders from above and just use their comon sense ! so no baseball caps and blairing music please ![]
billyboy Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 And in the near future the govenment will try and bring legislation to have cars fitted with satellite tracking and charge everybody £1 per mile.[:@]
bigdavie Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 And in the near future the govenment will try and bring legislation to have cars fitted with satellite tracking and charge everybody £1 per mile.[:@] and thats when i move to spain !!!!
z1000 Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 What about wanting to charge the most polluting cars (scoobys and 4x4 probably) up to £1800 a year road tax !!!! Thats when i move to New Zealand (The further the better)
imprezapete Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I gave up ages ago, just trying to enjoy whats left of our roads, cars before the nuke it all and make cars a thing of the past for the common person. Car in future will be for the rich person.

PECO Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 The government can't afford to tax us off the road, economy would crash and tax revenue from fuel, tolls, parking, road tax, speeding tickets would disappear. In the off chance they do though I am buying a motorbike - maybe subaru could bring out a Scooby Ninja B@stard or something!
flyingscot Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 **** the police if they cant catch me they cant do me
andyr Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Personally I don't see any problem with people with stupidly dark front windows being forced to remove them : you don't drive around at night with dark sunglasses on - why ? because it reduces your ability to see other road users, plus when someone has really dark tints fitted to their car it makes it far more difficult to determine if they've seen you when you've got right of way at a junction, r'bout etc : a plonker in an Astra with blacked out windows a few months back almost hit me at a roundabout on my bike one night.and I reckon he didn't see me due to his ability to see anything outside of his own car interior being reduced to close to nought. I do now see a relatively high percentage of big 4x4s etc around with these as opposed to the hot-hatches and I wonder if these have not been targetted in the same way ? My mate works for VOSA and he has a severe dislike for X5s etc so I'm sure given the chance he will be stopping these trucks if they've got dark tints.

My opinion would be of the "find out more about this procedure and go to court rather than accept 3 point rammed into you" Gumball (retired speed freak/forced to sell my machine and drive diesels by the government) Unfortunately it is true and valid GB. They use a system called "Tintman" IIRC basically it measures the light transfered throught the glass, to get an accurate reading the window must be cleaned prior to testing. The required transfer of light is 70% I believe for the the front windows, considering your car has in the region of 28% factory tint it only gives you 2% lee-way. I aint backing the enforcing of this in any way but some cars are taking the "P" at the levels they have on the front windows. Also if you fancy an argument, just ask the police if the Merc is still in use in Glasgow that has the "Blue" tints all round [] John.
swanie Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I Got a proby served on woosh on way to crail and had to remove my light front window film off ma car and take it to VOSA here in perth for the proby to be removed . I said to the VOSA man who is customer of mine "you know i could have just swapped class from one of ma other scoobys into woosh done the test and passsed, then back round for swap back in" His answer was "yes we know that but if you had and you got dun again for the same thing you would have had your car taking off you and CRUSHED, How does that feel now Mr Swan I replied " no comment"
wrxmania Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I had the tints removed from my front drops after they changed the law 2 years ago. Brian []

oobster Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 I had my front windows checked with one of those devices earlier this year - my windows, i was told, were slightly below the 70% and i was further advised that they were not issuing producers that night, they were only acting as an advisory service.
