st3ph3n Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 £60 notes a corner's not to be sniffed at for the ZE-512. How did you find them?
STi_Bandit Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Wow good deal, where did you find that price from mate?? Martin
st3ph3n Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s15p2221 £55. Just need to get them fitted then obviously. Blackcircles want £10 more. Was thinking of seeing if they'll match that price and then throw in the fitting at their usual rate.
STi_Bandit Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 A 215's iam 225's :-( but should be round the same sorta price i hope :-)
craig mac Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 St3ph3n I had Falkens on my classic, They all had to be replaced as they split in the inside, after 1000 mile!! All 4 looked as if the tread was coming away from the sidewalls!! [] It was spotted while getting the back box done, and i shet myself when i saw them scary stuff Give Falken there due they replaced them after 6 weeks of photos and reports etc, but it took my trust in there rubber away. Got the new ones flogged them and stuck on Toyos..... Craig
st3ph3n Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Interesting Craig. I'm running the prodrive geometery which I believe might be relatively harsh on the insides as well. Everything I read keeps coming back round to one thing - Goodyears eagle F1s or Toyo T1-Rs. It seems very much that you do get what you pay for.
col666 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I put 4 falken 512's on the other week, not impressed with them in the wet understeers like mad. Not been pushing them in the dry becuase of my wonky suspension but they seem ok. Col.
gus the bus Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Stephen I'm running Yokohama now with my 18's mate! £70 a corner from DP in Ayr on 225/40/18's Had no bother at all with the RE512's whilst I had them on. Ask Seafar99 (Craig) as he has the wheels now. I got the Falkens from DPH in Bathgate. Gus
seafar99 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Stephen, i'm running Gus's Falken tyres at the moment, can't say too much either way at the moment cause it's only really rained properly for the last two journey's home from work but certainly seem fine in the dry. I drive like an old fart anyway, too sleepy in the morning and too tired on my way home in heavy traffic for any high jinks.
jcscoob Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Gus good to see you've not went for REAL CRAPY toyo's iv got them the now not by choice and HATE them, cant wait to get yokohams back on !! []
gus the bus Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Stephen, I'm running Yokohama S306's and they have been very good so far.[Y] This is a report on them from a test "The Yokohama S306 is a low profile symmetric tyre that effectively resists wear. With its sporty feel, the tyre is also comfortable and quiet and offers good value. The Yokohama S306 has also been praised for its small bump absorption and excellent grip in dry conditions. The high traction tread is based on a new silica compound. The tyre performs slightly better in the dry than in the wet." Hope this helps!? Gus
spooks Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Had falkens on my car , unsure what they (512 does spring to mind though)were but they are the worst tyre ever. Understeer in the dry ..................down rightdangerous in the wet. Was quite glad to blow one of em dureing the Loch Lomand Run , gave me an excuse to change em.

If you had the 512's cant say I'd rate them that badly tbh Spooks[]. Were definately far better than the Bridgestone gash that I had on before. They tramlined like Fook. As I say tho I've got the Yoko's on now and they seem bloody good for the candy.[Y] Gus
spooks Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 You may be right Gus, unsure what they were tbh....... mind you with my record that should mean they are really great []

st3ph3n Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 I quite enjoy the RE050s. 2 sets have combined to give me 30K including 3 track visits.
gus the bus Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I quite enjoy the RE050s. 2 sets have combined to give me 30K including 3 track visits. Stephen, I think it was the 225/45/17's- RE040's I had on the Sti wheels that were pure and utter gash. The 50's were better. Gus
johnnyr6 Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I had 512's on my sti2 and they were mega... absolutely no grip whatsoever in the wet the car felt like it was floating through bends. It would spin all 4 wheels easily in the wet, not much better in the dry loads of understeer.
col666 Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Was out last night in the wet and nearly had an off at very low speeds, Falken 512's have absolutely no lateral grip in the wet[:@] roundabouts are 15mph now, cornering is seat of the pants stuff, bloody scary and dangerous. Had the back wheels spinning in a straight line on a damp road in 2nd! Col.
jamie_anderson Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 ive got falken FK452's on my car, still not worn in yet and are performing good dry and wet and thats with possible dodgy suspension, would recommend them as a good cheap performance tyre, previosly had avon zz3 and dunlops and the falkens match these so far.
