flat4phil Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Hello, Could anyone suggest a suitable replacement 'aftermarket' boost controller - perhaps Turbosmart product or similar - preferably one you have fitted or did fit - on a pre 1998 Classic?????
drb5 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I have one for sale mate. £15 delivered? Very easy to set up, as long as you have a boost gauge.
flat4phil Posted July 27, 2006 Author Posted July 27, 2006 That was quick! Sounds good - but what device is it and how is it fitted (engine bay/ dash)? Yes I have a boost gauge - but no idea how accurate it is.[:$] Thanks.
drb5 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 It's the same as a Dawes valve, or similar. I just installed on to my friends the other day and found it easier to setup than a Dawes and quicker finding your desired boost. What sort of boost gauge do you have and do you have an AFR meter, or Knocklink? What sort of car do you have, with what mods?
flat4phil Posted July 27, 2006 Author Posted July 27, 2006 The boost gauge is a low rent dial gauge, and no I don't have any separate air fuel gauges or additional knock link. Mine is a UK 97 Classic; front mount, GEM's implant ecu board with the anti-lag (takes manifold absolute pressure - not MAF), plus usual Walpro, fse, yellow injectors, and I believe a stock IHI turbo, 'turbo back' decat system. I know that the boost is currently subject to the stock solenoid type valve - and perhaps could help if changed - but to what & without spending Apexi money?[:$]
drb5 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I'd have thought the boost control was good with the GEMS, but i'm sure if your careful enough, this valve could be just as good. Up to you mate. Speak to your mapper, if your not sure.
flat4phil Posted July 27, 2006 Author Posted July 27, 2006 Thanks for the reply. It was following my last RR (not at a GEM's specialist though) that the operator suggested I look into an aftermarket boost control device, perhaps electronic, to replace the stock solenoid valve. Just hoped there were gizmo's around that didn't all cost Apexi Power FC money or similar.[]
drb5 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 This valve does work better than the stock solenoid, yes. Car is a bit more spritely and holds the boost better.
flat4phil Posted July 28, 2006 Author Posted July 28, 2006 Think I might snatch that off you then - would you have any info on installation too (don't want much do I?).
drb5 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Theres a wee leaflet supplied, but i'll let you know how's best and easiest way to install and setup. Send me a PM if you defo want it mate, cheers.
