my   air conditioning doesent work at all i think it may need some gas has any one tried the canisters you can buy in halfords they come with a gauge .I was going to buy one but thought i would ask you guys first if they were any good oh aye and easy to use would be a bonus

I tried the cheaper one (£20) without a guage and although it started the aircon again it wasn't enough to fully charge the system. The bigger one with the gauge would probably work but i'm going to add the extra 20 quid to get it recharged properly now.

There is a company called Auto Kool.  Mobile service obviously, think they travel pretty far to service folk.  I have used them twice, once when the compressor went and then when I needed a top up.  Only took £30 to do a full top up, plus he put in a luminous dye just incase it goes down again and there may be a leak!

Would defo recommend, can find them in Yell.com

I am taking my car to S&S on Friday to get mine checked out.

I have a smell of wee wee in the car when I first put it on [;)]

Not going to attempt the DIY version

If the aircon doesn't work at all, you're better off having the system vacuumed out first and then re-charged.

The Halfords kit is only really useful if you feel the aircon isn't operating at its' best  i.e. the air con is low on charge (not empty) and in need of a top up. Can vouch for the more expensive version being good enough for top ups (used it myself) but if your aircon isn't working, forget it. Go to a professional to have the system rid of any air (vacuumed) and then re-charged, though be aware, you may have a leak and so you could have additional repair costs before a further re-charge
