Auldy Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 thinking about getting a front mount intercooler, but wondering if its worth getting or not?? purchased, an uprated fuel pump and induction kit and is hopefully gettn remap by Andy F, was thinkn of buyin a FMIC b4 the remap aswell, but as i have the veilside front bumper on my car dont want 2 destroy the look of it as i would need 2 modify it 2 fit the intercooler, dont really wana do that [] so before i start 2 cut up my front bumper anyone got 1 fitted or any ideas to how much a FMIC improves performance?? thanks
wrxmania Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Andy F sells a very good, well priced and well fitting FMIC - contact him - it was a bargain - compared to some of the big name, over-priced stuff on the market. Brian []
andrew_lally Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 pace do a superb front mount kit that dosent require any bumper mods!! but they pricey!! and the difference in performance is superb...slightly more lag but well worth it in my opinion mate!!! but the cheaper ones do the same job...and with the mods required to the front bumper it takes you to stage 2 of the scoobs weight removal process lol superb on track......heat soak sucks!!! regards andy
the squiggle Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Essentially a front mount intercooler is more efficient at lowering the charge temp then the std top mount. The cooler you can get the inlet charge temp the more advance the engine can run safely without detting. The more advance you can run, the more power the engine will make safely. Suggest in addition to your uprated fuel pump and Induction kit with decent cold air feed i would add an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and possibly port the std headers before getting Andy to remap the car. If funds allow i would look for a front entry TD05 of the 18 or 20g variety as the VF28 on your car can be a bit fragile when upping the boost. This combo on top of your Version 5 STI spec would yield in the region of a reliable 350 - 390bhp HTH Grant ps pleasure to chat with you on Sunday and your car is stunning in the flesh
Auldy Posted July 21, 2006 Author Posted July 21, 2006 The above sounds gd thanks for the info, all will b takin into consideration [] ive got the cold airfeed sorted, ill prob get the fuel press reg as i was lookin into them as well as the intercooler cheers mate was gd talkin with ya aswell, i must of polished the car 3times that day with the public leavin finger marks & handprints over it []
