spooks Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Well found the source of my exhuast blow............ uppipe gasket again, this is the 3rd or 4th time I have blown this gasket, convinced I have a faulty up pipe [] Anyone else have any probs or am I the only unlucky sod Spooks
bigdavie Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 next time put 2 gaskets on with a healthy dose of exhaust paste ! hth
colin_ross Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Too many times for it just to be a spot of bad luck Spooks. Have you changed the up-pipe or uprated it at all? Also, is it leaking at the top or the bottom end? Sounds like you need to dig a bit deeper into this one as it'll just reoccur if not looked into.
fai17 Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 What kind is the up pipe?? You'll need to look in to it to see what the problem is.
harvey_smith Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 What up-pipe is it??? If it has gone several times, chances are the flange on either the headers or up-pipe are buckled. (Not the headers if still O/E Subaru.) Does the up-pipe have an expansion joint/flexi???
AlanG Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Does the up-pipe support bracket line up with the up-pipe properly?.. if you have to pull the two mating faces together by the bolts which hold them together, you put stress on the lower flange and increase the likelyhood of the lower gasket leaking through time.
steven_williams Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Got a new up-pipe from USA with a flexi joint. when fitted had a 1cm gap (approx) at the joint between up-pipe and tubular headers. Ppacked it with 5 gaskets and exhaust sealent, no leaks and no stress on pipe. Later in the year am going to get a spacer cut to match the gasket then should only need two gaskets. Best of luck m8 (See you Sunday)

Grant said at the time it was the first newage they'd done. This became apparent when the initial quote of 30mins to do the job on the Friday afternoon turned into a weekender (they did lend me the binner 'scort to get home at least!)
