tazmaniandevil Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Howzitgaun? I'm not an Impreza owner, I own a big ole '92 Leggy wagon. Isn't it great when all the wee boys in their Corsas an' Clios look down their noses and rev their buggies when you're at the lights...... Then you floor your beastie and leave them for stoor. Anyhow, back to my point. I need a couple of bits welded for the forthcoming MOT. Does anybody know anyone around the Stirling area who does welding? (Cheap of course) I've been quoted by the garage doing the MOT, but I think their quote is a bit steep for what needs done. (2 wee plates on the rear inner arches.) If I had someplace to work, I would hire a MIG from HSS and do it myself. Cheers in advance. Tom
Digital Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 I have a MIG welder that you can borrow if you like. Needs gas that can be bought at Halfords for 7 or 8 sheets. Can even supply face mask, gloves and wire free to your goodself. Would offer to weld it meself, but not that experienced on thin car body panels. Im 5 mins away from Stirling too if it helps.
tazmaniandevil Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 Ta for the offer Chief, I'll bear it in mind. I'm getting a bit long in the tooth to be lying on the road in the p*shing rain welding though. Added to that, our street is hoachin' with weans, and I would never get peace. If I find myself somewhere to work, I might take you up on your kind offer. Thanx Tom
Digital Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 No problem bud. Just checked and i have two new co2 cylinders that i forgot i bought years ago so can give you these too. Let me know if you need it and i'll drop it off.
tazmaniandevil Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 Ahhh yir a star! If I find somewhere I can shelter my old bones from the elements long enough to do the needfuls, I will give you a shout.
euan_r Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 i would use gasless myself much easier dont have to remember to turn gas on/off as well [:$]
tazmaniandevil Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 When I had my Clarke Migmate welder years ago, I often used it without gas using standard wire. Every so often I would remember to turn the f**kin gas on. I gave my mig away when I got a job with a company car, thinking I'll never need to do any welding again. I had access to a workshop back then as well. (Sometimes the choices we make in life leave us looking like right tw@ts) I bought my Leggy wagon to use as a workhorse while renovating the house. Now I don't want to get rid of it, but I'm not about to pay more for welding than I paid for the whole car. I don't mind spending a bit of money on it, 'coz I reckon I saved at least a grand on van hire by using 'the beast' instead.
