st3ph3n Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 When I actually passed it it was feckin' warm, could feel it even with my window just open a wee bit. It was fair burning.
st3ph3n Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 Was it an 06? I was busy admiring the flames and trying to dodge them. The driver was stood on the hard shoulder behind where my car was when I took the photo, a good 150 yards away from it. To be honest the traffic should have stopped rather than drive past because it really was spitting those flames out. The guy was on the phone, and unless you had a fire extinguisher or more likely a fire engine there was no helping him.
STi_Bandit Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 April said to me it was an 06 beetle, dont know if she pasted it little bit before you, Hope ud stop for a smart car on the hard shoulder with sidc stickers [] Martin
4Hero Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 still a scary situation though, maybe some comforting or someone to chat too until the fire brigade came would have been good for him/her.
jcscoob Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 FFS thought VW's were "bomb proff" [] Hero i agree, even just to tell the guy it is(might) be ok[y] . Ps, good camera work Steven []
st3ph3n Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 There was a 328 in front of me. Like I was going to stop when I could drop down the gears and blast past it.
STi_Bandit Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 hope you were hands free of course, dont want to self incriminate yourself using urr mobile n driving[]
jcscoob Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 There was a 328 in front of me. Like I was going to stop when I could drop down the gears and blast past it. PMSL [][6]
4Hero Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Is it not any decent persons responsability to stop and make sure everyone is ok though? Just because he was on his mobile means nothing.. Not getting at you personally stephen, it's just if it was my car that was one fire I would expect someone to stop. The problem nowadays is that everyone is in too much of a rush to take photos?, or get home to do whatever after a "hard days work" and don't give a toss about much else []
bigdavie Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 on this point how many of us actually carry emergency equipment ie fire extinguishers ?? i have one in the citroen but thats cos its an ex taxi i also have a glass hammer and seatbelt cutter in my door pocket and one on my desk that needs to go in the scoob !! also silly things like a tow rope and jump leads !
st3ph3n Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 You're spot on Neil. I wasn't in a rush to get anywhere, and out of the other cars passing I don't imagine they were all having to get somewhere urgently, but no one was stopping. The fire brigade or police were no where to be seen, but then it looked like it had just started given the relatively short traffic jam. First thing that hit my mind was "oh, I'll get a wee picture of this".
G.T. Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 it would surprise you how quick it takes a car to get to that stage of burning in a very short space of time, its better burnt to the ground then the person will get a nice new shiny one, its quality when the tank explodes on a burnin car ye fair kack yer pants and its a bugger to get oot
z1000 Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Once met a guy coming the other way with flames under his car, managed to flag him down and by the time i got turned and went back it was well on fire. Managed to convince him not to go back for his house keys which was just as well as the tyres exploded with some pop.
st3ph3n Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 I mind going through the M8 one morning with my mate. Early on a Sunday and we were going to Knockhill for the BTCC I think. Just coming past Motorola a Nova coming the other way lost its engine in a big way. Looked like an F1 style blowup with plumes of white smoke. Couldn't have been much fun.
slo2 Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Always have a hivis in the car just in case Ive to get out on the hard shoulder. Was once out of the car changing a wheel when the car got hit by a truck,Shat myself been v carefull ever since.
gus the bus Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Stephen, saw the aftermath of that this morning. It was an 06. I'm sure the owner would be none too happy[]!!! It must have started after I passed as I spied you on the M8 last night just b4 this (level with Polkemmet!) I was stealth mode[] Gus
st3ph3n Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 What mode was I in? I do hope I wasn't driving near the speedlimit.
gus the bus Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Na you were within the 40mph roadworks with a lot of traffic around you[]
