fai17 Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 As per usual i have fishy stories of the one that got away and it gets heavier each time i talk about it. But here is the one that never got away... Enjoy... Rutland Water. The quality of the rainbow trout is superb and probably the best in UK. And the Brown Trout (4lb10oz) that won me the Bob Anderson(friend) Rutland Cup for a whole year to sit on my mantlepiece. And btw it's the worst place for hay fever sufferers like myself......hay fever overload[:'(]
dougster Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Superb although I'm not a stockie fan. The brownie looks fat (did you examine the contents of it's stomach?) and well worthy of the trophy. What fly and line did you use to land them Pete? Have you looked on Wild-Fishing Scotland?
oz *sti* Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 looks like you had a good time peter with some great weather [Y][]
andy Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Only done the fishing thing once - on a holiday on the Norfolk Broads. Nice, relaxing way to spend an evening with a beer -though the girls weren't too convinced about the maggots . [] I can, however sympathise on the hayfever front. Bane of my life
paddy247 Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Looks like you had agood time away from the big city Peter

I'm not a fan of stockie bashing so i change my tactic(imatative) to get the over wintered fish.... The rainbow is not a stockie as you can tell by the fins and stomach content and the lack of fat in the stumach. OK the brown does look like a stockie but it must have grown on for a while and the was no fat in the stomach. It seams to have damages to the tail but it put up a great fight. Q.What fly and line did i use? A.It was a Rutland Water hi vis yellow floater and 10lb sightfree 3G as for flies.......it was all own my own tyings like black buzzer,PGB nymph, yellow owl nymph, green flash back diawl bach, yellow owl hopper and yellow owl shuttlecock cdc.I used 9.5lb riverege grand max for dry fly fishing.
dougster Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Cheers Pete. TBH I never took a close look at the rainbow but I see what you mean. I certainly use a buzzer but none of the other bright ones but I have a few 'dancers' in my box.
