STi_Bandit Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Drivers beware! This new super speed camera, dubbed 'the daddy', is onits way to a road near you within a year. Motoristsreally will have nowhere to hide, as it's fitted with four lenses -three digital still cameras, plus a video capture system. These enableit to patrol up to four lanes of traffic at a time - current camerasystems can only monitor part of a wide carriageway. The new Multi-Camera System (MCS) can also beused at traffic lights and box junctions. And there will be no disputesas to who was behind the wheel, as the device has an infra-red flash, which means it can be forward facing to take pictures of drivers' faces. The MCS is made by Dutch firm Gatsometer, whichbuilds the infamous Gatso, the most common speed camera in the UK. Thehi-tech new machine can hold up to 60,000 images of speeders on itsencrypted hard drive, while the photoscan be downloaded any time via a phone link. This, plus the fact it comes with defence spikes to deter vandals, means the MCS is almost maintenance-free - something which will appealto safety camera partnerships. A spokesman for Serco, Gatsometer's UKdistributor, agreed that the MCS was 'the daddy of speed cameras'. Headded: "It's not available in Britain at the moment, but we couldintroduce it in the future. The local camera partnerships need todecide if they want it. "If they do, the unit would be operationalwithin 12 months." However, Gatsometer's more expensive four-laneAutomatic Number Plate Recognition system - revealed by Auto Express inIssue 818 - will arrive first. The Serco spokesman confirmed that theset-up, which times drivers between two points, will undergo HomeOffice trials soon and could be in use by early 2007. SOURCE : AUTO EXPRESS
neilswrx Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 why are these never outside schools ,hospitals and on the really bad roads that people have lost their lives on instead of dualers and motorways where there less problems?
robert_harding Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 if you see any type of "safety camera" and you think that it is not justified to be there, then you can complain. never done it myself but i might just do for the hell of it.[]
andy Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Ever since somebody on here mentioned Pepipoo I've become totally addicted. Compulsive reading IMO - especially when the little guy wins [] If everyone created as much havoc as possible by following the advice on that site when they were done the system would soon crumble. Be interested so see how their case at the European Court of Human Rights goes.
the squiggle Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 It will burn with diesel and car tyres the same as all the rest of them
