st3ph3n Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 My PC was playing silly buggers with me. Wouldn't play the MP4s I'd recorded on my phone or the 3GPs that Grant had. Spent hours faffing with this that and the next until finally I installed this: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite..._Codec_Pack.htm It'll ask you to remove any other codecs you have installed becaue it will replace them for you, which I answered yes to, and it will also run a wee tidy up on your PC looking for out of date or broken ones (the cause of my problems). Then bingo, MP4s and 3GP working no problem. As well as divx, xvid, 3ivx etc. etc. etc.
bigdavie Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 k lite ?? is that not the name for the old kazaa p2p software ?? have you checked its free of spyware stephen ?? might be worth doing mate
st3ph3n Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 Davie my good man, I have an honours degree in computer studies. I work on important database and software for the government. When I'm not killing time on the forums that is []. My PC is about as secure as fort knox wrapped in batter with Mr T gaurding it. I think it's safe.
bigdavie Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 well in that case i'll download that cheeky wee program !! cheers !
dougster Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I would say only necessary if you don't keep your media players up to date though???
vicki Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Then bingo, MP4s and 3GP working no problem. Would that be playbingo.com [] lol
st3ph3n Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 Dougster, if everything works then don't install it. My problem was a few uninstalls of Nero and Activesync 3.8 had left some codecs registered but not present and thus I was having issues. This solved that. If I was building a PC from scratch I'd also install this rather than all the seperates because it includes everything you need including the excellent Quicktime alternative and real alternative which stop you having to install the awful quicktime and real player.
jcscoob Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Steven i have downloaded it and still cant watch grants vids [] it just says ready at the bottom left !
dougster Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I was only pointing out that people might not need it. I'll have a look at the full program and I do agree Quicktime and Real player are flawed.
st3ph3n Posted June 13, 2006 Author Posted June 13, 2006 JC, hit control and f5 to do a forced refresh on the page. Should sort it. If not click this link - http://uploadfile.putfile.com/videos/a8-16007581483.3gp - save the file and go to windows media player and open it up and see if it works. Then try the links again. But usually for me a forced refresh solves it.
jcscoob Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Nope, nun work [] tryed saving the link then cant find it in WMP[:@] and the Ctrl/F5 just came up the same as before.
