prodrive tony Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 4 days after getting engine done its miss firing and not starting!! Blokes away 2 weeks and im stuffed!! Leads and plugs ok. Im gonna reset battery and check air hoses and my new fuel pump connections now. Any other ideas before i turn into a Ev@ driver!! Thanks.
HOL Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 If someone near you has a My99/00 SECS monitor, they could plug it in tour car and read any fault codes. If not, there is a way of getting the fault codes off the car, but I'd have to search SN to find out how. (Never had to do it as my Classic had a Link ECU and my newgage has a SECS). Was the car ok, upto the point that you switched it off?
prodrive tony Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 Yes it was fine when i turned off! Ive checked pump and all air pipes visually.
prodrive tony Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 Thanks, i was thinking that, got an induction kit which kills em!
HOL Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 When Monty's my98 maf went, the car started and ran, but the tickover was erractic. So I do not think it is MAF. 90% of the time, these things turn out to be Electrical, rather than mechanical. What confuses me is that the car was fine, when you last drove. If the pump went then, your car would start, but stop suddenly when the fuel in the system ran out. Did this happen and can you hear the pump starting when you turn on the ignition. Do you have an immobiliser? This could have broken down. Have you checked the main loom multiplug (under the battery I think) as this would have been undone and reattached, when the engine was removed and replaced. Stick a jump lead between the negative of the battery and the engine, in case it is a bad earth. Finally, give M25 Flyer a PM, he is an RAC man and may have some more accurate advice.
prodrive tony Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 Thanks for your time. I can hear the pump working and it will start eventually with loads of throttle, just sounds like its running on 3 cylinders! Got in booked in with Sanspeeds 2mo. Thanks alot.
prodrive tony Posted June 9, 2006 Author Posted June 9, 2006 It gets worse!! Ive lost compression on the two offside cylinders!! After 3 days and 3000 revs max. Ive been told the timing is miles out. It ran fine when I got it back. Surely hes responsable? Thanks again.
granby Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Sorry to hear that [] I'd say hes fully responsible, think he might have a surprise when he gets back from his holiday []
prodrive tony Posted June 10, 2006 Author Posted June 10, 2006 Thanks Granby, im fed up with all this waiting and not having any car! Absolutely sick!!
Montythegod Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Mhh I had a lack of compression on the 2 nearside cylinders.... I was having a bit of fun with a clio 172.... when I suddenly lost all power and engine cut out.. pulled over to the side of the road and could not get it started, very embarrased.. Towed it home and next day run my compression tester on each cylinder. There was no compression on the nearside 2 cylinders [:'(][:'(]. Took the timing belt off and the exhaust cam had jumped 3-6 teeth on the belt. Took the engine out and removed the head, the 4 exhaust valves were all bent [:'(] 600 quid on gasket sets, 4 valves, timing belt and the crucial tensioner ! later (and 2 weekends) she was back up and running [H] Apparently the tensioners are prone to go on my 1998 uk model... or it wasnt tightened up / adjusted properly, but dont quote me on it. Check the cambelt timing before it goes to Sanspeed if you can. There are a load of PDF manuals available for download on the net.
prodrive tony Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 Thanks Monty, I bet your right and the belts slipped as it was running fine before. Its just convincing him its his fault. Thanks for your help.
