STi_Bandit Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Just so i can budge my performance mods correctly whats the best route to go down for remapping the subaru. Ive the choice of the following :- 1. Gems ECU 2. Andy F (Ecutek Remap) 3. Motec ECU. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each system Martin
ormiboy Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 What about andy f and an a apexi power fc ? Or are they not available for your year of motor ? Tho ive read that there is not much to separate the apexi from the Ecutek. Happy hunting.
STi_Bandit Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 Really its to know if iam better going with an Andy F remap, or if i plan to get more things done latter will i keep needeing remaps for every new bit etc...
st3ph3n Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 What sort of numbers are you looking for Martin? Gumball is running circa 440bhp with the Andy F ECUTEK remap. Remember that the first map includes the licence, any mapping after that you're just paying for a tweak to the map. Gems will give you extras like anti-lag but do you see yourself using that? I'd personally love anti-lag, not for the performance, but just for sitting at the traffic lights scaring the hell out of everyone as the cars going off like a shotgun. But I have to ask myself, is it really worth the extra? MoTeC - The dogs danglies, but surely overkill in a massive way. Only Calder supply them in Scotland that I know of.
STi_Bandit Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 Ok time to sound very silly but what is anti lag do Martin
FastScooby Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 have a read here [] http://www.rallycars.com/Cars/bangbang.html
st3ph3n Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Video of it in action. I forgot to add some sort of conclusion to my first post, but I'm sure it's obvious that I'd think a simple ecutek reflash is where it's at in terms of bang for your buck.
FastScooby Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 brill vid... alright if you want the BANGERS done []

I can't wait till i get mines fixed/activated. Martin....At the end of the day it depends on what you want. 1.Do you want to do different from the rest? 2.Do you want antilag? 3.What is your budget? 4.AndyF ECUTEK is £550 + vat approx 5.GEMS ECU is £1800 approx On KH i was pulling away from G.Mac from the hairpin with a bust up pipe and G.Mac has got about the same spec of engine as me.G.Mac runs ECUTEK(350bhp) and i run GEMS(326bhp)...so you explain that!!!But G.Mac was killing me round bends tho. Value for money i would go with AndyF and he is more local and a very helpful guy.[Y] Where as the guy who does me GEMS remap is always out of the country mapping rally cars which means that if i need him for something it would be a while till i can get hold of him. But saying that i personally would go GEMS again.. As for motec i am sure Greers could supply that and get the same guy who maps my car to map Motec..Colin doesn't reccommend Motec for Scoobies as he think Motec is more for EVOs.
STi_Bandit Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 My budget iam saving for is 2K on enfine/performance modifications. This is to include, TSL Sports Cat Downpipe, Tsl Centre Section, & TSL Group N Back box, and a Walbro 255 fuel pump. Gems ECU i like the sound of and anti lag, and or like you say Andy F stay 20mins down the road. I am sure each sytem/remap is really good, Maybe moew swayed more to the Andy F remap as iam not thinking of heavily modding the engine, but on the other hand the anti lag could be nice Martin
fai17 Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Quote brill vid... alright if you want the BANGERS done [] It won't be long till my[] car be like that then i come up to your neck of woods to roast your BANGER!!!
st3ph3n Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Is the anti-lag selectable Peter? It's not something you'd really want to be running on the road if you're just nipping down to the shops for a pint of milk and half a dozen rolls.
Gumball Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Peter is a genuis. The convo always comes back to his project and power lol[] Motec is a very very very good ECU and has been given serious consideration by a few people with some good mods and hunger for power. Pricey though and you need to head south ECUTEK- Andy Forrest really knows his stuff in this arena. He is local and will offer you more advice than someone who sees a jock coming for a cash transaction. The ecutek software does from my understanding have areas within it that arent captured to the same extent as GEMS such as finding a spot or area in the map that might not be a precise as GEMS. Hence the reason why GEMS covers a broader spectrum and costs 3 times as much. Gumball says- 8/10 cats cant be wrong when it comes to Andy Forrest and the work he does for people. Get yourself up there after making an appointment via PM or email cos he will be busy mapping during the day and get it done. A coffee and a roll and bacon bribe will see you having a good mapping session[][]
fai17 Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Aye it's switchable....on or off and mines is staying on when the guy was mapping and couldn't switch it off so that's why mines is not activated the now till he can sort it out. But hopefully he can fix it when he is up doing then remap while all my goodies has been fitted. BTW Stephen my Trust FMIC is a Greddy R Spec HR with polish end tanks and pipe work.[] When antilag is on you don't have vacumm for the brakes[]
STi_Bandit Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 Yup just want to know the best route to go before spendinding x amount on the wrong product for my tastes. The anti lag sounds fantastic, and i could really enjoy that, will just need to sit and weight up the opions of both systems The advantages of the ecutek is its close, will be a good map for the car and have a reall drivable car and ill get switable map settings. Does the gems have switchable maps ? Martin.
fai17 Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Don't know as mine don't have one but they maybe switchable.. Your £2000 budget doesn't allow for a GEMS tho....or is there something you are not tell us. BTW Martin..you'll need ported standard headers or other headers too. I know someone who maybe willing to exchange his ported standard header for much cheapness.[] Right...i'm away to work now....when are you popping down Gumball?
Gumball Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Maybe tonight fillbert. Im not sure yet. I was supposed to be going out on the lash with Bing and Wilky but Bings a penis and has pulled out.so it looks like i could be cruising down for a wee duck and bbq spare ribs. up ye
st3ph3n Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 What about Autronic (http://www.autronic.com/page_files/mitsubishi_subaru.htm), Greddy's e-Manage, HKS F-Con? I'm sure there's another one I can't quite put my finger on. Was in Scooby mag or True Grip a few months back. Just to confuse matters more! And Peter - Nice work with the FMIC. You know I like my japanese bits.
STi_Bandit Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 Do i need Ported Headers, and also my trbo ported? Martin
p1ggm Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Andy has mapped mine twice, and no complaints here, car pulls great, and is really nice to drive
ormiboy Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 worth bearing in mind that andy f was running 9.8`s with a power fc and it will only skin you £750 fitted and mapped by the man himself.!!!!! Bit of a bummer about the lack of active knock detection / correction tho. have you guessed that i own/ like apexi`s yet ??????
fai17 Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Quote Do i need Ported Headers, and also my trbo ported? Martin Yes....you at least need the turbo ported as boost spike are a known problem on a IHI VF35. Just ask G.Mac about it.
