thewelsho Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Hi Folks Can any one help/advise me on the following issue? Had the06 for about three weeks and after the first week I took a look at the enginecompartment. To my surprise there was a thick greenish oily fluid splatteredall over the top of my engine. I wiped most of this off without thinking as towhat it might be. However, there is still plenty of it left (see pic). Theinsulation material that is attached to the inside of the bonnet is sodden withthis fluid also. There is an unpleasant but very very slight odour from it and,at times when I use the air conditioning, it gives off a dreadful smell similarto this substance only much much stronger. Since I wiped it off, it hasn’treturned, so if there was some sort of leak, I’m sure it would have shown itselfagain. Any ideas? It’s due its 1k service on Tuesday and I intend to have itlooked at, but would like a heads up seeing that I am clueless! Thanks John
p1ggm Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 i dunno what would be oily and that colour, closest thing would be antifreeze that colour but shouldent be oily
RS Grant Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 I'd guess its some sort of protective coating they put over the engine when new?! I hope its nothing more sinister than that anyway!! Cheers, Grant

bigbadboab Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 That looks very similar to Waxoyl, which is a protective sealant to stop deteriotion/rusting of car panels
Racing Snake Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Its waxoyl got it all over my car when it was new. In fact it's still there working a treat. They re-apply it on your 1st and 3rd body service as well. Nothing to worry about mate.
thewelsho Posted May 31, 2006 Author Posted May 31, 2006 That's guys, now I feel like an a55 seeing that I wiped most of it off!!!! J

G.Mac Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Yup it is a protective coating they put on , attracts all the dirt and looks awfull wery quickly though, dont worry about it. It cleans off very easily with engine cleaner. I presume that it is applied for transoprt etc as the salt air is very corrosive to metals even though the car is stowed on a car deck of a car carrier coming from Japan. Graeme
