iain_ogston Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Just taken deliver of a set of STi pedals for my motor. Has anyone fitted a set of these? Instructions look fairly straighforward (although they are in Japanese!) but there are bound to be gotchas.
slo2 Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Am I missing something as Ive only got three pedals in my STi ?
iain_ogston Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 Right 3 are accelerator, brake & clutch panel on left is for footplate.
p1ggm Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 glue and double sided tape will sort them out[] they should be pretty easy, not fitted them ones before but have fitted similar ones in previous cars
shaun_odonnell Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Quote glue and double sided tape will sort them out[] Be sensible, you lick the backs of them and stick them on, just like the old postage stamps.[]
iain_ogston Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 aye funny lads lol I have the Sti fitting set with all bolts etc. Just wondering if they are easy to fit or nae!
shaun_odonnell Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I think the hardest part is getting into the footwell to fit them. Unless you athletic and bendy.

p1ggm Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 are they drill on, or do they have the little bars that run along the back of the pedal? either way they shouldent be too bad a job, if its drill on ones then they can be a bit of a pain depending on fitment, fitted drill on ones to my old gte, wasnt too bad ones with bars at rear, would be better if you were a mutant with 3 hands tbh, but again, not too bad if you are local and need a hand, just shout
iain_ogston Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 Well the accelerator pedal has a bar at the back and looks slightly adjustable. The brake and clutch have brackets to go over the tops of the pedals and are bolted in place at the top - they look pretty easy if I can get original pedals off (judging from the diagram, I don't read Japanese!) The footrest comes with a massive steel bracket which must also bolt into place!!!!! Is it easy to remove the standard pedals? Are they bolted on does anyone know?
p1ggm Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 dunno what the original ones look like, if its just rubber it should prise off
iain_ogston Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 Cool, I did think they might. There is a picture in the instructions of a screwdriver going at the pedal with an arrow moving away. I don't speak Japanese but I think the translation would be "use something sharp to get the manky old pedals prised off" lol I've got aftermarket footrest, clutch and accelerator pedals already so I'm hoping they don't throw a spanner in the works. I'm going to fit these later in the week, at which point I'll post more pics of them in place.
scott_coull Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Over a year since I done mines. You have to take the rubber parts off the origional pedals but since you have aftermarket ones then I assume once you remove these then the pedals wont have the origional rubbers on. If so just remove them. New ones go over the top then bolt underneath. To remove the footrest its simply unbolt and then bolt the new one on.Reasonably small socket set needed to get into the screws/nuts. Accelerator pedal was a nightmare, spent more time trying to get the metal screw/bar through the two holes on the back of the pedal than fitting the other two pedals and the footrest. New pedal sits on top off the origional pedal and then the bolt passes through the new pedal hole then the hole on the pedal then through the end of the new pedal where a nut is supposed to go onto it. I eventually widened the hole of the new pedal as I could'nt get it to fit. Cheers Coulster

Well started this last night - removed my old pedals (Razo racing pedals) which were actually only held on with bolts and brackets round the back of pedals so they came off quite easily with an allen key, as did the metal footrest which had been screwed through onto the subaru plate. Footrest fitted with two bolts, clutch and brake were fiddly to get nuts onto bolts but took ten minutes each, then done. Looks superb. Then it got dark so didn't venture into "remove the accelerator" territory as I wanted to drive the car today Coulster- Did you have to remove the original bolts from behind the accelerator. I didn't have time to get a mirror and see whats going on behind that pedal!!!
scott_coull Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 No you dont, the pin that you get with the STi pedals just goes through the origional hole/hollow bolt thats there. Push the new bolt through through the hollow bolt to give you an idea before fitting the pedal. Cheers Coulster
iain_ogston Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 Ah right! I understand the diagram on the instructions now. From my "O" grade technical drawing exam knowledge I had sussed that there was a channel, but thought I might be missing a part (i.e. a tube) or that it was part of the original pedal. Wasn't clear from piccy that it is a hollow bolt. If I could only read Japanese...... Cheers! Fitting tonight!!!!
