4Hero Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Buenas noches, I was pondering on the idea of getting a wireless head unit so I can transfer music from my pc while sitting in my driveway, but after reading the fitting instuctions they say "The player's cable (about 16 feet) connects to a small hideaway module; it has a fuse, two RCA jacks for analog stereo output, four leads for battery, ignition, ground, and illumination, and an output socket." Does the standard head unit have an input for such a device? Is it possible to have this wired to the battery? I would probably take it to somewhere like MRD in Bathgate to get fitted, but just wondered if it would be possible to fit such a thing without trashing my new car... Mucho gracias
st3ph3n Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Neil, the standard doesn't have an input so you would be looking at getting a new one. What device is this that you're looking at BTW? Sounds very interesting.
4Hero Posted May 22, 2006 Author Posted May 22, 2006 Stephen, it's the Rockford Fosgate Omnifi DMP1. Pitty about the head unit, so I'd have to buy a new one too then?
st3ph3n Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Unfortunately yes. Having said that - the standard HU is utterly gash so you should have removed it anyway. The rockford thing doesn't look that great value. What you'd be best with is a decent headunit with an iPod adaptor and an iPod to plug into it.
slo2 Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Get a broadcasting unit that plugs in to the ciggy lighter also carrys i pod then just play your i pod. Been doing this for a couple of years now and it works fine John
oobster Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 nice idea that, sending files to the car from the house. Might get more common in time. I have a Pioneer that has an iPod attachment - iPod is then tucked away (and is remove from the car every time i leave it btw) and is controlled by the Pioneer headunit. Agree with stephen - the standard head unit is a bit crap, MRD fitted my head unit & Pioneer custom-fits in all 4 doors for me. Alan in MRD is the guy to speak to - your probably talking maybe £600 for a decent head unit, the iPod adaptor and 4 decent speakers.
4Hero Posted May 22, 2006 Author Posted May 22, 2006 Cheers for the advice guys. The rockford thing doesn't look that great value. Stephen, I found a site selling it for £110 plus delivery and customs charges, seems not too bad to me [] I've got an ipod, so may look into other options, but I do fancy the wireless idea though...
st3ph3n Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Oh, that's not a bad price indeed. 20gb though. Not enough for me.
4Hero Posted May 22, 2006 Author Posted May 22, 2006 it can be upgraded [] Not sure how safe that would be though.
st3ph3n Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Now that's more interesting. I'd still need to spend £70-80 on a 60gb+ 2.5" drive though. Bookmarked for my later perusal I thinks. I've got my creative zen 60gb player hooked up to my pioneer but it's rubbish as the zen only has headphone out and not line out so the quality isn't great. It also has to be controlled from the player rather than from the headunit like the iPod + adaptor scenario.
st3ph3n Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...roducts_id=5119 Check that out Neil. That's the package price with the HU and a drive, but almost any USB mass storage device would work with it. I'm considering selling my headunit for one.
