mitchell Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 could be hit with a double whammy by the looks of it. car was running fine one day, but the next was not boosting and still isn't. still getting the sound from the dumpvalve if that means anything. ca simply drives like normally aspirated car. (no shuddering or hesitancy) had no issues with the car prior to this other than when just started was slightly hesitant(not on boost). was looking to put the car in for service(timing belt, plugs, oil and filter) in the next week or so anyway, but whats my best bet. do i get fault looked at, do i get both done at same time, or hope that issue is identified/cured following service. what could the issue be? car is 1998 wrx import. and am looking for reputable garage in glasgow, (preferably within easy travelling distance of partick). thanks in advance, martin
ANDYJDMSTI Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Have you checked your dump valve pipes, one could have blown off or split. i had the exact same symptoms as you last year and found that one of them had split.
mitchell Posted May 20, 2006 Author Posted May 20, 2006 i will give that a try, really clutching at straws at the moment
ANDYJDMSTI Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 with reference to your garage question then you have Greersport in Glengarnock (Lochshore Ind estate outside Beith) or Hypertech in Bonnybridge
drb5 Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Actuator arm could have came adrift from the penny arm. Remove the turbo heat shield to have a look.
mitchell Posted May 21, 2006 Author Posted May 21, 2006 weird as it may sound but car seemed to boost properly tonight on the way home from work. as suggested i checked(squeezing and bending) my dumpvalve pipes for leaks or splits , but nothing found. only other part i touched were the leads. has any of the above maybe got something to do with initial fault. eg leads, plugs or something trivial causing problems. think drb5 suggestions may be too far to travel
drb5 Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 If since then it has boosted fine, it isn't my idea. Sounds more like the boost solenoid isn't working right or something. If it was a leak, it wouldn't have rejoined itself up or something. []
